Menopause

Anyone else experiencing more body odour?

I have changed my name just in case I am the only one this is happening to...

I have noticed that my body odour is getting much, much stronger. I shower and wash my hair every day but by the end of the day, I am really quite smelly under my arm pits. I have tried different deodourants etc but nothing seems to be working. I have never had a body odour problem before. My DH actually commented on it today as well. He was not unkind about it, he just said it was most unusual for me. Is this a pre-menopausal thing?

Hi I am 47 and been perimenopausal for 7 years, and also still suffering from strong smelling underarm odour, basically I am alot tackier / moist underarm than when younger, after bathing my underarm just gets moist very quickly and smells strong and sweet ... Its so awful as I am so clean, I am only having about 3 or 4 periods a year at present, (infact none since Sept 2011 at present) I am on no meds or hormones so its not that, so ladies you are not alone and I am so relieved its not just me. I find the roll on deo Driclor is most affective, its lasts for up to 3 days, but dont use straight after under arm shave, it stings. It can be purchased from Boots in UK, or you should be able to get online... Try it... I bet you will be impressed. And thanks for sharing your posts......

Hey ladies. I am only 36, so not near menopause yet but I have the same problem. I tried many different antiperspirants and some seemed to work for awhile but it was like my body adjusted to it. Sometimes, even directly after showering and putting on a fresh T-shirt my underarms would smell before I even arrived at work.

I found the same solution as Jayneejay. If you still sweat after putting on antiperspirant then you simply need a stronger one. Go to your local drug store and ask for an over the counter antipersperant for hyperhydrosis (doesn't sound nice but that is what it is). In Germany the brand is called Yerka but anything for hyperhydrosis will work. It is a liquid that you apply to your underarms every 3 days or so with a washcloth.

And like Jayneejay said, definitely DO NOT apply the antipersperant to newly shaved armpits, wait at least a day or it will seriously sting.

It works like a dream and though I am slightly uncomfortable with using very strong antipersperant, I simply couldn't deal with the daily embarrassment of changing my shirt 2 or 3 times a day.

Hi holdyournose, I am on hrt which has helped me greatly with flushes etc. But as someone else said, my lady garden has definitely got smellier. And recently my dh said I don't smell like myself! Said I didn't smell bad only different. But I think i stink! can anyone recommend wipes that i could use in work during the day, I am very wary of putting anything too chemical on such a sensitive area? Thanks for starting this thread I thought I was going mad.

I sweat terribly and yes the odor is not a good thing. I've been trying to get my body in balance by eating alkaline foods. As for the odor I absolutely recommend purebodyscent all over body deodorant, this stuff is the greatest. No more odor for me but I am still trying to get my body in balance. Liz

What is pure body scent liz?can you get it in the UK?
You're posting from the US, no?
Does it block up all the sweat glands?

I've changed perfume recently, and my sense of smell has changed. Things I liked two years ago smell fusty and old lady ish to me now.
I like fresher citrus smells, and have ditched the rose and bland florals as they smell suffocating to me now.

I see that this thread hasn't been posted on for a while ?? but that's okay. I will feel better (for myself) adding my comment ~ I can't find any relevant info on this subject anywhere else, so am delighted to have found this! Your comments have helped me sooo much ??Thanks! I've just come in from an evening Jive dancing with DH. It's the first time we've been and it was SUCH a fun evening.... except for my stinky armpits! He insisted that he couldn't notice an odour at all, but ??????!! And just like most of the posts on here, I showered before going out, bath and shower every day, clean clothes etc! I have good strong deodorant - having had a BO prob as a preteen I became obsessive about good string deo - and have never ever smelt sincethen. I am now beginning to wonder if it IS a smell/sensation thing rather than real, because having come in from dancing, taken a long shower, I am still aware of it!! DH is NOT aware of it! I'm 51 and slightly mortified, but hugely relieved to read your posts ?????? x

No, it is real, unfortunately, Angel

The weird thing for me is that it's just my left armpit that stinks. My right one is no different. That's now I know it's not just perception!

Ladies
I tried every deodorant and nothing worked until someone recommended Pitrock.

Just have to make sure skin in clean and wet
It's the only thing that's worked for me. And it lasts for months.

I recently switched to the Dove 48 hr max protection deodorant cream - it's a bit more expensive than usual ones but has worked like magic for me.

Yes. Just before all this peri menopause crap finally hit the fan 18 months ago I definitely noticed I was getting sweatier and my deodorant wasn't strong enough.

Very unusual for me as I have never suffered with BO and always showered daily.

Thank goodness for all you lovely people for posting; I'm 46 and menopausal (last period Apr 2015), and have recently noticed that the onslaught of evening hot flushes leave one pit absolutely stinking.. As if all the years of periods then pregnancy and childbirth aren't enough lol.. Good to see its fairly normal, and await the lady garden change!! Blush

Same here. Also my boobs feel huge heavy and tender. I've put some weight on over the summer but my boobs seem to be getting bigger and bigger!

Yup! Glad it's not just me! I've never sweated, not even midst flush but...blimey, the stink! Weird. Sort of a primeval, animal smell. Ugh.

Same here.
Upped washing me and my clothes. Armpits washed 3x in shower every morning (clean flannel everyday), started using bio clothes wash (now sensitive DD is at uni) and the odd cap of zoflora.
Made my armpits so sore with over washing had to rub something in to sooth them. Canesten worked, must be the menopausal change in skin flora. On weekend a month I give the deo a rest and rub in Canesten twice a day for two days, smell under control.

I absolutely recommend purebodyscent all-over body deodorant. My boyfriend loves working out nearly everyday but since he was having extreme body odor he almost stopped all together. I bought him a bottle of purebodyscent deodorant which he uses down in his groin area and underarms. He was so thankful because he is not embarrassed to work out due to body odor - he even bought me a dozen of carnations lol ;) -- By the way this deodorant is all natural. We are happy with this purchase for sure. Cindy H.

I have always had to fight BO. Anxiety makes it worse. For me, monthly hormones made it worse. Perimenopause seemed much better.
I use bicarbonate of soda (Sainsburys is fine like powder...the best) in leg/groin area which has always been a problem, with great results.
Now the sweat has changed, the smell is not good and smells bad on neck, back of ears, head. I am at a loss as to what would help. The smell is more like blood than sweat?
Now at menopause the smell is different.
