Evorel 50/Conti - feel great on 50 but raging on Conti

MacaroniBaloney · 24/07/2022 19:32

I feel amazing on the 50, but exhausted, tired and snappy once I move over to the Conti.

Why would this be. I still have small peroids so assume that's why I'm on the Conti.

I wish I could just stay on the 50!

Exactly the same for me. I will rage with you if you like.

I persisted through the 3 mo trial but it got worse and worse. I'm now up to 75 and utrogestan instead. The first cycle of that wasn't loads better so this cycle I'm taking it vaginally, which is better again but I still hate it completely with a passion. I wake up in a mental mess which persists for a few hours until it has presumably worn off a bit. I just stopped taking for this cycle and the difference is immediate, except now I want to cry all the time because my period of about to start.

I hate it. I really, really hate it. But I will put up with it in order to be on hrt for other benefits. I just hope the consultant can recommend something else that might be less awful.

ghettihead · 24/07/2022 19:48

My first month on this regime was awful when I was on the conti, raging and incredibly anxious. Currently on the second month and it seems a bit better. How long have you been on it?

Bessica1970 · 24/07/2022 20:07

I was like this too so stayed on the 50 and skipped the conti part.
Of course I ran out of the 50 before my next prescription was due so bought more online (couldn’t get a GP appointment to review the medication).
This worked well, but when I’ve tried to do this again the online pharmacist queried it.
Theyve agreed to let me have the 50 as long as I take Utragestone (I think that’s what it’s called ) alongside it. The pharmacist said it’s a lot gentler than the conti patch

RandomMess · 24/07/2022 20:10

I cut my patches in half and only use the Conti every 3 months.

MacaroniBaloney · 24/07/2022 20:14

Im coming up to a year. I didn't notice to begin with as it took 3 months to feel any benefit. It's progressively got worse and last week impacted on my job.

Years ago I had to come off the depo injection as I had terrible rage then too. Wonder if it's a similar ingredient I need to avoid.

I am very sensitive to progesterone. If it's awful this time then I may come if it altogether.

I have been passed from pillar to post instead of straight back to specialist so I may just have to go private.

My symptoms went wild about 6 months ago and I do wonder if it was the finally hormonal blast and now I'm more menopausal than peri?

siblingrevelryagain · 29/07/2022 15:44

I was the same, described it to the private doc (had to go via Newson Health as difficult to get anywhere with GP) as 'falling off a cliff' for the two weeks of Conti.

For the last 6 months, I have been on permanent Evorel 75, and 100mg Utrogestan every night.

It has made a big difference - I think I needed more Oestrogen anyway, as I was starting to get some symptoms back. Was originally going to have a coil fitted but chickened out so now have the Utrogestan

I'm 46, been on HRT since 42, still very regular, monthly periods.

RandomMess · 29/07/2022 15:54

If you have full HRT you will carry on having periods

MacaroniBaloney · 03/08/2022 22:15

I've called the docs and got a new prescription for gel and tablets which should lessen the drop I get from thectwo weeks on conti. Fingers crossed!

So glad I found this thread. I’m only on my first month of this combo (and HRT in general), and a week into my conti patches and I’m back to hot flushes and some serious rage, after things had seemed to settle a little for the 50 patches. Wondered if it might be the change of patch type, so at least I know it might indeed be the case.

My gp is calling after 6 weeks, so I’ll discuss it with her then. I’m happy to give it another month or two if it’s going to settle down, but no way I want to put up with 2 good weeks and two nightmare ones for the foreseeable! Not too keen on tablets as an alternative, as I have some gastric issues that can affect how well I absorb oral meds.

Hope you have had an improvement with your alternative plan op.

MacaroniBaloney · 12/09/2022 12:58

^^ just spotted your post. Definitely feel more on an even keel, am now on month 2 so will carry-on and evaluate at end of month 3. But certainly seen no return of the 'rage'.

I spoke to my gp yesterday, and she has swapped me to permanent Evorel 50 patches with utrogestan tablets (but to use vaginally) for 2 weeks of the month. She said that hopefully not taking them orally will reduce the risk of the same sort of side effect the combi patches were giving me. The other alternative was the 50 patches and a mirena coil, but we’ll see how this goes first. Bloody hormones!

fern16 · 05/01/2024 23:50

same here, 3 months in still have bit of rage . was your period normal or heavy i had 2 light ones now a bit heavy . avoiding the coil too as many have complications

Christine0708 · 06/01/2024 11:32

If it’s only on conti patches it will be the progesterone. If you still have a womb you need progesterone when taking oestrogen as it thickens your womb lining and prog prevents this but there are different types to try.

BigButtons · 06/01/2024 18:51

I hate it too. I have asked to be given norithisterone tablets as I tolerate those much better than the utro. My dr says no because it’s not as safe. I am on everol 100 so there is no conti for that. I am 56 and it looks like I will be doomed to have withdrawal bleeds forever if I stay on this regime.

Christine0708 · 06/01/2024 18:57

@BigButtons have you tried utro vaginally? Apparently that can help with symptoms. There are other progesterones aren’t there to try? X

fern16 · 06/01/2024 19:01

yes i still do as 45 so its peri menopause, im going to see how i get on for 6 months at least.

GP did suggest estrogen only and have mirena coil but i’ve had doubts about a coil fitted

@Christine0708 yea i have been taking it vaginally for years. It does help with the symptoms. It makes me blow up like a barrage balloon and the bloody app are awful. I want to take norithisterone but gp says no.

Christine0708 · 06/01/2024 22:22

@BigButtons would you be able to go on the 3 monthly cycle HRT that’s available. Progesterone very 3 month instead one one ? X

BigButtons · 07/01/2024 07:37

@Christine0708 oh- I have no heard of this. Could you explain how it works? That sounds very good!
