ospemifene for vaginal atrophy

I had a review appointment today at a menopause clinic. The doctor mentioned oral ospemifene for vaginal atrophy. I have been on Imvaggis Pessaries and Ovestin but not 100% improvement. She suggested as I am not 100% improved that I try this medication. Are any of you familiar with this or are any of you taking it? I am in Ireland so perhaps it's not available in the UK. She left it with me to think about and do my own research.

I'd never heard of it. Quick google says it's for women who can't use vaginal estrogen. It's not actually estrogen as such.

Hard to say what you should do because it all depends on how long you have used the other products and what dose. a lot of women find they have to use it far more often than the directions say- so instead of twice a week, maybe 4-5 times, and for up to 6 months to see good improvements.

I have heard other meno specialists talk about using DHEA which is maybe something to research and talk to your dr about.

Is the dr a consultant, in menopause, or a GP working in a meno clinic?

A GP working in a menopause clinic. She mentioned putting me on DHEA also, to replace the androfeme I am using. I had a blood test after 3 months of using androfeme and my testosterone levels are exactly the same as before using it. She said I may not be absorbing the androfeme and maybe stop using it and use DHEA instead. I was reluctant as I wanted to do a bit of research first. I also wondered why not just increase the dose of androfeme. She agreed to this but only from 0.5ml to 0.6ml. I can't see that small amount making a difference. She told me that she is certain that I am not absorbing it if there was no change in my blood test.

The ospemifene is to replace the pessaries and cream. I was reluctant again as I hear such positive reviews on vaginal estrogen. I told her that I will increase my dose and see how I get on. I am due a review again in 6 months. I need to get a blood test for testosterone levels in 3 months.

This is my third appointment I have had at this menopause clinic. I had this particular GP the 1st and 3rd time. She couldn't make my second appointment and I got a consultant. The consultant was absolutely fantastic. She increased my dose of HRT gel and added the ovestin cream with the pessaries. She also put me on androfeme. Today it felt the GP hadn't even looked at the last lot of notes and was all over the place. I was just lucky to get the consultant the second time as she only deals with specialist cases.
