Have just logged in, have been posting on the Depression area, but think a lot of my symptoms are pre-menopause related.
Look forward to chats on here.

Seasider · 18/01/2008 17:24

what are your ideas on the main symptoms? Have exceedingly heavy but regular periods, and feel like no energy/weepy at this times. And hair seems to be getting thinner...

ChorusLine · 18/01/2008 21:17

Think this is a really good one to have - not that I am going through but my mum is

kkgirl · 19/01/2008 13:53

Mine have been, minor hot flushes, panic attacks, periods all over the place, and now depression. Was coping on Kalms until last week, just started on Citalopram.

Seasider my friend has those heavy periods, have you found the menopause matters website, I find that supportive and you can chat to others in the same boat.

SlartyBartFast · 19/01/2008 14:12

how aobut a peri-menopause
or pre-menopause,

when is the menopause? late 40's early 50's???

sfxmum · 19/01/2008 14:24

is 'everything pisses me off' a symptom, have been feeling quite unreasonable lately when the mist settles that is

Mercy · 19/01/2008 14:30

The menopause actually means the final menstrual period in a woman's life and is permanent. Symptoms leading up to this are called the perimenopause and can occur several years or months beforehand.

Mercy · 19/01/2008 14:33

Sorry that's not very well worded at all, pressed post without meaning to.

Well, that's the gist of it anyway!

discoverlife · 19/01/2008 14:47

I had what I thought were Menopausal symptoms (I don't actually have periods but do have working ovary) and it was the slimming tablets 'Acomplia' causeing the symptoms. So another 10 years to go.

The reason for no periods was very, very heavy periods, Super tampon, 2 towels, knickers and sleeping on a towel on a waterproof sheetheavy. I had a treatment called TCRE 'Trans Cervical Re-section of the Endometrium'. Wonderful operation. Day case, no periods since. Other patients report no periods or very much reduced flow.

WideWebWitch · 20/01/2008 10:50

Oh goodness, we've got a whole TOPIC?! Wow.

discoverlife · 20/01/2008 20:54

bump

Earthymama · 20/01/2008 20:56

Put me down for this...I'm so glad I'm not the only one with no patience, I'm so horrid (even if I'm right!!) I've always been a concilatory sort so it's really odd to find myself being so nasty.

discoverlife · 20/01/2008 21:43

Wrong post Earthymama?

sfxmum · 21/01/2008 09:31

actually i do worry about this stage of life more than I worry about ageing itself iyswim.
am still ttc dc2 so occasionally have fears about early menopause.

I think I generally need more information on what can be done before during after etc. leaving it to chance, not being proactive worries me

Seasider · 21/01/2008 12:45

Thanks, KK Girl and other MNs am seeing my GP on Friday so will ask there too

sylvev · 21/01/2008 18:15

This is very timely, went to gp today and he diagnosed menopausal symptoms. Periods getting further apart, heavy periods when they do arrive, mood swings and feeling sweaty and hot most of the time. I've had night sweats for several years before my period. Dh has named me the slug!

mother3 · 27/01/2008 22:21

The good thing is it does end and if you look after your self it can be a blessing in diguise.some women sail through it and otherS have a hard time.I just thought i must be under stress when my periods were all over the place being not well imformed i was ignorant of the situation. At least now days there is lots of help to get us through it.If you dont want HRT there are herbal tabs such as black colish .I couldnt handle the mood swings as other stuff was going on at the time and it was difficult to tell wot was wot.women usaly go through it as the same age as there mum/granmas were but as my mum died when i was 19 (she was 41 )i didnt have any 1 to ask ,also it was a taboo subject WITH OLDER members of female line like periods.Just got on with it but i know now i could have had a better time of it .GOOD LUCK.

2shoes · 27/01/2008 22:29

at last some where to talk about "it"
I have no idea when mine will start. what with having the mirena coli and my mum died when i was 18(she had a long term illness so even if she had a menopause the age wouldn't be relevant) I am once againg just pleased that mn will be able to help me.

i HAVE BEEN ON HRT FOR 7 YEARS AND I could not have managed without it. The hot flushes were horrid but bearable , the endless cystytis and very dry vigina were just a nightmare.I am copng with two frail parents and doctors appointments are something I can do without!!I hope to keep on with the pills for years. My friend has used HRT for nearly 10 years.

Donk · 30/01/2008 19:18

I have just had to stop HRT after 2 years, due to getting my first ever Migraine attacks. Now I'm waiting to see how I cope. I went onto HRT in the first place because of an early menopause with horrendous PMT like symptoms - I was so ANGRY all the time.
So far the hot flushes are back, but the homicidal rage has only reared its head briefly...

zazen · 24/04/2008 00:10

This is a very interesting thread - hello!

My Gp says that we all have peri-menopause from our mid 30s.

Periods change, body fat deposits in different places, feeling tired, angry, hot.

I'm wondering how many women are actually peri-menopausal, but don't actually put two and two together.

I'm glad MN have this section, as so many other mummy boards on the web seem to have their heads in the sand about women's health and the normal and natural changes and transitions we will all experience.
It's all focussed on the ttcing and mummy parts of the woman's life, and not at all on the transition into post fertility.
