Period / spotting for 5-6 weeks

Did anyone else have weeks of daily spotting in peri? How did it end?
Dr. Google says likely to be a benign polyp, and it will fix itself.
Google Search Engine autocomplete tells me that this happens to A Lot of women in Peri.
I intensely dislike getting unnecessary treatment for something that would fix itself.
... but 6 weeks of daily spotting is a long time, isn't it? Maybe I need to risk the unnecessary treatment happening. Irk Irk Irk.

I'm mid 50s, and have Zero other symptoms, problems or risk factors for anything bad.

I'm weighing up trying to get a GP appointment, anyway.
Just curious if others had similar experiences. Thanks in advance.

Hi just wondering what was your outcome as i'm experiencing exactly the same now and am worried out of my head, i'm feeling afraid to go to the Drs, just hoping it will go away. Thanks for any help you have to offer me in advance.

oh wow, forgot I posted this (!)

Short answer: nothing bad, and it stopped after ~9 weeks.
Long answer: I saw a GP in July (about 6-7 weeks in), who did physical exam, and within 4 weeks I had:

Provera prescription (progesterone) to try to stop the bleeding: i reckon it did nothing
Cervical smear : nothing dodgy found, but I have cervical erosion which was maybe the actual cause of the bleeding
Vaginal Ultrasound : too many to count tiny fibroids, but very healthy uterus otherwise
Blood test: question mark about my thyroid, rest was healthy, I am not pursuing another thyroid test because I feel fine.

I reckon it was just my system doing a last hurrah freedom !!

wow 9 weeks, i'm so glad your ok now I will try and get an appointment with the GP, they are hard to get at the moment. It seems to taper off and I feel relieved thinking, its going now that's it, then all of a sudden i feel a trickle, I also think me worrying about it is making me 100% worse, cant even remember peoples names at work, i'm a total mess at the minute and keep crying. Thanks for replying it has really helped me, you've gave me a few things to google 😃

Don't do what I did... there are 2 surgeries in our town, I switched from GP1 to GP2 about 12 years ago. You can only get appointments online where you explain the problem that needs attention. Sure enough... I gave all my details to the wrong GPSurgery. They were good enough to phone back & let me know. Eek. such a personal matter to describe and I told the wrong people. But I got fast tracked to GP appt (within 48 hours) when I filled in the right forms. GP said that when patient is < 40 they rarely worry about prolonged vag bleeding, > 60 they always think the worst, and between 40-59 really could be a million things good or bad.

The vaginal scan was done by a chap (with female chaperone there). He seemed camp as heck so that helped me relax, but still you know, rather undignified procedure. He was great in explaining exactly what his report would say and why. Gold Star. Nurse who did the cervical smear is one who told me I had erosion & that this could lead to very erratic bleeding.

I am getting similar in peri and it is v irritating. Skipped a period - thought hurrah maybe that's it, all done with. Then suddenly got one 2 weeks after that that was there for 3 days later, then spotting, then another period (I think) then more spotting. I wish they would just hurry up and fuck off fgs!

Scared to google it but what’s cervical erosion and what causes it please?

(peri)menopause hormones can cause it, it looks a bit pink often causes some temporary bleeding, cells from inside the cervical canal spread outside & these are blood shedding cells. In some cases the bleeding doesn't settle down & there are physical treatments to sort the bleeding, but most people won't need that. It's classified as "normal" cervical event.

Anyone who has unusual bleeding should get it checked out and not assume it's peri menopause hormones - it might be, but then again it might be something more serious. Mostly it won't be cancer but if it is the sooner it's identified the more likely it is that it can be cured.
