Vaginal oestrogen

Am already using hrt patches/pills but am considering asking the GP for vaginal oestrogen to help with dryness/soreness and increased frequency and urgency to wee. Is it worth asking? Will I be given a prescription for it if already using hrt? And does it work? Thanks

I use both systemic HRT and Vagifem, some people need both, i certainly do.

Approximately 50% of women already on systemic HRT need topical, vaginal estrogen as well. It is very helpful for the bladder! Vagifem pessaries are just inserted in the vagina. But Ovestin cream can be used both internally and on the external genital area, so is more adaptable to personal need. I would not hesitate, in your shoes.

Thanks for the replies, will definitely contact the GP tomorrow

I am 41 and produce no oestrogen of my own at all due to early menopause due to autoimmune issues. I take HRT (oestrogel and utrogestan and the mini pill) and have Ovestin cream. Ovestin cream is like magic! It works so well. I also use Replens on the days in between Ovestin - Replens is hormone free so you can use it as much as you like. You can get it prescribed or from Amazon etc. Many people don’t like Replens because when you first start using it it can cause white clumping which is essentially the gel mixing with dead skin cells but if you keep going with it that stops and then it just works really well.

Ovestin is great. I get plenty on prescription- they aren't stingy.
I prefer it to the pessaries because of the plastic waste.

Also, the product leaflet contains all the warnings for systemic HRT. My GP told me to ignore it, and that they have been trying to get them to update the info for years. It is a tiny fraction of a dose and remains in the general area used. Ovestin cream should only be used in the genital region however (not on your face!).

Whatever are you suggesting, @nightfairy! I haven't attempted to help my sore dry hands with extra oestrogen cream, of course not!
