I've had to basically choose my own HRT dosage

And as a result... I'm not sure it's entirely correct!

When I say I've chosen it, I spoke to my GP who agreed HRT but was puzzled as to why I wanted it. I'm 50, with regular periods which are now heavy but last same amount of time. I don't have sweats and apart from being a bit stiff from time to time, I have no symptoms really. I try and manage with a healthy diet and swimming daily.

But I've followed all the up to date advice and I'd like to take HRT as a preventative measure and for the protective benefits it has.

The doctor recommended the following for me .... could someone please advise me if it looks right?

Oestrogel Pump-Pack 0.06% gel (Besins Healthcare (UK) Ltd)
Apply one metered dose to one area ‐ 80 gram
Approved by your GP
Monday 20 June 2022
The status of this prescription is
Approved
Utrogestan 100mg capsules (Besins Healthcare (UK) Ltd)
One To Be Taken Daily On Days 1 To 25 Of Cycle ‐ 30 capsule

She had to look up the Utrogestan dose so I'm not entirely filled with confidence so could someone just reassure you that it sounds about right for someone who still has regular periods?

Thank you!

If you still have periods you should take utrogestan 200mg 12 days a month and you will have a bleed (pick a date and stick to it every month for 12 days).

The 100mgs continuously if for those post meno, as in haven't had a period for 12mths or more.

The oestrogel dose is 2 pumps but many start with 1pump and increase after a few weeks as it can make you feel nauseous initially.

Good luck!

You are very lucky to find a GP who is happy to give you HRT for 'prevention'. It's not licensed as such other than for women with low bone density which could progress to osteoporosis. Many women here are fighting tooth and nail to get it even with lots of symptoms.

The PP is correct. You will find all the dose instructions on the patient leaflets in the packs - and online if you google.

With regualr periods, you use HRT on a sequential regime, which is mimicing a fertile cycle, so 12 days of progesterone in a month.

My consultant (who trains other drs) suggests starting on the same day each month to make it easier. So 1st as an example.

Don't try to follow your own cycle as you will get into a right muddle as your periods start to get irregular. In time, HRT will reset your cycle.

My gp made the same mistake with my Utrogestan. From the second month (ie after my first bleed on hrt) I switched to taking 2 x capsules per day from day 15 to 26 incl) instead of 1 a day from days 1 to 25.
