Lubricate!

Am 50, never been diagnosed with vaginal atrophy but have had the symptoms of it including a small amount of leaking incontinence over the past few years and also found smear tests increasingly painful. Started using the once every three day lubricant three weeks ago and omg what a difference. It's just like everything is as it should be and no little trickles at all.

I know it won't work for everyone but for me it's a little bit of effort for a lot of gain. So I'm spreading the word in the hopes it catches others who can benefit too.

Was it on prescription or over the counter?

FavouriteMug · 17/06/2022 17:23

What's it called OP?

HolyGrail · 17/06/2022 17:23

Over the counter. It's not one with hormones in it. Those you would need a prescription for.

Hi @FavouriteMug I'm using boots own brand vaginal moisturising gel but there are other named brands that do similar.

It's not just a lube, it has a hyaluronic acid component. It comes with an applicator so you insert it rather than rub it in.

I honestly cannot describe the difference it has made for me.

Moisturisers and 'lube' do not reverse the changes of VA. They make things more comfortable in the short term but they will not change the cells back to pre-meno. They don't stop your vagina shortening or your labia and clitoris shrinking. In time, it gets worse.

You need to see your GP and ask for either Ovestin - a cream to insert- or Vagifem which is a small (tiny) tablet /pessary.

TBH honest these OTC treatments are often only sold and bought by women too embarrassed to talk to a dr about it all.

Pluck up the courage to go and get proper treatment.
