Evorel Conti patches, but still having periods

I'm 52, still having periods (few days early or later, but not missed one yet).

I've just had a period that started very light, I thought it had finished, then it was continuously very, very heavy, for over two weeks, so just over 5 weeks of a period.

My GP suggested I try HRT and has prescribed Evorel Conti. I read that it was for women who haven't had a period for 18 months and spoke to a pharmacist, who said that it's either two years for women under 40, one year for women over 50, or fine for women over 54 who still have periods - none of which apply to me.

I sent a message to my GP who hasn't replied, has anyone taken them in the same situation?

I’m 49 and still have periods and my dr has prescribed the same. After reading the leaflet I’m not sure whether I should take them. Does anyone know why the leaflet suggests only for those who haven’t had periods for 18 months? I also do take birth control pills.

I'm 47 and on the mini pill but also
using Everel Conti (although only half a patch) as prescribed by gynae consultant.

You need progesterone too if still having periods.

Musicaltheatremum · 06/07/2022 06:59

You should be on evorel sequi if you're still having periods.

dottycats · 07/07/2022 01:17

@BabyYodasGotMyTeacher that sounds reassuring, is it going okay?

I know from reading on here that I should be on sequi or something else but I’ve checked with my dr and they’re still saying try conti for 3 months. So any stories from anyone in a similar situation would be good to hear.

@KangarooKenny I think the conti version has progesterone and I’m on Desogestrel too. No idea if that’s enough though.

@buggeringbuggery did you hear back from your dr?

buggeringbuggery · 07/07/2022 13:03

@dottycats no I haven't. I left two messages but nothing! It's taken a few days to get iron tablets for a ferritin level of 4, so I don't think that I will hear anytime soon.

Does your BC have progesterone in? It's very strange that GPs are prescribing Conti, when it's contraindicated. In my case I think it's obvious that I still have oestrogen (had a scan on Tuesday and my ovaries look normal, but I still have fibroids and I'm sure they are oestrogen dependent). I also have no difference between my endometrium and myometrium, which I guess it adenomyosis, I don't know if that relies on oestrogen too?

I think I may need progesterone over oestrogen. I get really restless/itchy legs, which I thought was a progesterone overload, but now I think it may be caused by low ferritin. I took Agnus Castus for a while and that regulated me, but haven't taken it for a while, and was scared to take it as my period was so long and heavy.

Hi, not sure if I can be of any help but I’m almost 50 and haven’t had a period since October (so less than a year) and was prescribed Evorel Sequi. Through tracking my mood whilst using the patches I found that I would take a dive into depression whilst on just the oestrogen patches and a lift in mood whilst on the oestrogen & progesterone patch (Conti).

I decided from last week to start using the Conti patches all the time and already my mood has improved. I couldn’t get any advice from my useless GP so contacted Women’s Health Concern as I just wanted to check I wasn’t doing any harm by using continuous therapy as I didn’t fit the guidelines.

I got a reply from the menopause specialist, apart from other info, this was some of the reply:

“If continuous combined HRT is started a little early, before you are fully postmenopausal, then it doesn't do any harm, but you may be more likely to have some irregular bleeding. Worth continuing and see the effect”

Hope this helps.
