Migraines on HRT

I've been on Sandrena gel for 6 weeks. No issues and seems to be helping with anxiety.
But... I've just started having horrible migraines. I've had 4 in the space of a week. I never got them before. Wondering if they will settle down or if I'm not suited to it.... Have a doc appointment booked but wondered if anyone could share any similar experiences. Thanks very much.

Are you using just estrogen? No progesterone?

ChiswickFlo · 09/06/2022 14:00

My experience sadly
Tried everything

Thanks for the responses. I have a Mirena for the progesterone bit - haven't yet tried testosterone or anything. That's a shame @ChiswickFlo - so did you have to come off it? Wondering if she might reduce my dose first.

I have had the opposite. A long term migraine sufferer I was taking preventive medication. Since taking hrt my head has been clear and I’ve come off the prevention meds. The only migraine I get is at the end of my progesterone tablets when the hormones dip, I’m therefore booked to get the mirena in a couple of weeks instead.

That's interesting @Thanksforasking78

I'd rather stay on it so let's see. I'll report back after I see the doc tomorrow in case it's useful to anyone else in the future.

It's unlikely it doesn't suit you as it's body identical and simply replacing your own estrogen.

The usual way around this is to think about the dose.

You'd normally start on a low dose, and Sandrena comes as 0.5mgs.
It also comes as 1mgs.

It could be that the dose is too low, as some women get migraines when estrogen levels fall off.

Does any of this ring a bell?
