Help HRT making me feel worse. I think

Any optimism’s very gratefully received please.

I started 1mg of Sandrena gel and 100 mg of utrogestran daily 4 weeks ago. Main symptoms were debilitating brain fog , low mood, waves of anxiety and tinnitus. I still have periods and questioned at the time the daily utrogestran but was told that’s the best way. He said start immediately regardless of my normal cycle.

the first week was great. Felt on top of the world. Now I feel worse and worse. My period felt like I was dying. Anxiety is back worse than ever, low mood constantly, overly emotional and rapid mood swings.

Crying at everything (I’m not a crier ever!) however the tinnitus has gone- and my brain fog is a little clearer.

I’ve never felt this bad before and am tempted to throw in the towel and put up with the ear ringing and Brain fog and try using supplements, yoga and mediation instead.

i spoke to the GP a week ago who said see it out for three months. But ah w also spoken to a very useful prescribing nurse today who suggested

a: going to a 10 day utorgestran cycle rather than daily,

b: try a different combination entirely

c: come off the HRT for a month and go back on it in line with my cycle if I feel I need to.

many thoughts or opinions. Does it get better as I can’t carry on like this.

thanks

If you can’t carry on for the 3 months then I think you’ve answered your own question to a degree and it’s a case of trying the suggestions given by the nurse. I’m not able to say which one you should try first that’s up to what you feel you can tolerate. In peri when our own hormones are in the mix you can be literally all over the place. I was fortunate at that stage but I hit a wall with HRT last month when the my natural hormones deserted. I then felt awful. I’m now using vitamins, supplements and HRT which seems to be helping. Good luck OP.

Daily progesterone is strange if you’ve been having periods. It’s usually for women who haven’t bled for some time.

You could try the 10-14 day utrogestan cycle instead, but taking 2 at night for those 10-14 days. Your symptoms sound likely to be caused by the progesterone. But speak to your nurse or GP again if any concerns.

If you still have periods surely you should be on cyclical progesterone? I’d query that more strongly.
