Menopause causing havoc with my skin

I’m 54 years old, have been on HRT (Oestrogel and utrogestan) for over a year and have developed terrible skin - redness and spots, which I haven’t really suffered with since puberty:(
I would like to visit a good dermatologist, does anyone have any recommendations? I live in South London.

I can't recommend a dermatologist but I suffered for a couple of years with the same issues. I went online to skin&me, after a Mumsnet recommendation. I've been using it for 3 months now and my skin has cleared up amazingly, with no more painfully sore spots at all.

I went to see a dermatologist as my rosacea flared up and I was feeling hormonal and generally fed up and stressed out. He put me on a 2 month course of antibiotics which are working but recently I went to a menopause talk about holistic health. I’ve been having lots of other health niggles and have just stated taking supplements for skin, mood and all
sorts. I kind of wish now I hadn’t rushed down the medical route as antibiotics affect your gut health. I’m just flagging this up as you might want to find out about supplements etc first. It was a real eye opener to me how deficient I likely was in B vitamins and other nutrients even though I thought I had a pretty good diet. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

You could try Skin Accumax by Advanced Nutrition and use Avene Cleanence to wash and moisturise. Once you use that for a while you could introduce niacinamide serum. I would also take the Advanced Nutrition probiotics. Gut health is very important in helping to have good skin. You need to give the supplements time to work. They can take up to 3 months before you see results. Also drink lots of water.

Thankyou I do take a daily multivitamin, can I ask what vitamins you currently use and do you think it’s helped with your skin?
My diet is good in that I eat fairly healthily but probably am deficient in some things.

@Fififizz Can I ask what vitamins you are taking?

Fish oil, omega7 (for skin dryness which is another issue for me), B vit complex, vit d.

PersonaNonGarter · 11/06/2022 10:32

Thank you. All of the ones you mentioned are ones that I have considered and I think I’ll go and get these.

I went to a health food shop yesterday to choose but was overwhelmed so left empty handed. Your list seems a good place to start.

Watching with interest.
Officially I'm not in Peri yet, but rosacea flaring up badly. I've done some free/cheap online consultations with pharmacists and gps to get treatments. So far Soolantra dealt with the spots and Rosex with the flushing. But I'm left with red patches on cheeks (no texture). Was thinking of trying the antibiotics but will have a go with supplements first after @Fififizz said.
I've just started a blood glucose supplement (magnesium, chromium, selenium, zinc) but interested to know what else to add.
Please keep those good ideas coming!
