Utrogestan and night shifts

Hi
I have just been prescribed Lenzetto spray and utrogestan. I’m a midwife and regularly work night shifts. Should I try to continue taking the urtogestan at night when I’m working or change it to the mornings when I go to bed following a night shift or will this play havoc with my cycle? I work 3 nights a week.

I had a similar debate with myself as my rota is changing to include overnights in a few months time. I’ve scheduled to have the mirena coil fitted instead. I hate that I’m having to put something inside my body I don’t want to because of work but I find the utrogestan really wipes me out and I worry about messing around too much with the timings.

Some women use utrogestan vaginally as this helps with less side effects etc so I’ll see how I get on with it orally and if I can’t tolerate it that way at least I have another option.

Maybe use it at night and use it vaginally. If you delay the dose by more than 24 hours you won't mess up your cycle but you may well get spotting.

ok, thank you 🙂

Is it an option to not work nights, at least for a while, as this is a new regime for you to settle into. The law requires all night workers to be offered a health assessment ( look on HSE/ government website); you’d be entitled to a professional occupational health assessment if the initial questionnaire raises any issues, ie needing to take time sensitive medication.

Our shifts are rostered 3months in advance so I would be unable to change them now.
I might try taking them orally on the nights I’m at home and then vaginally on my work nights. I guess I can trial it both ways to see which works best for me

If you can't t avoid nightshifts then take it in the mornings after your first night shift of the week just before you go to bed maybe. The first dose will be abit late but within the time frame i think. Plus it should help you sleep hopefully. I wouldn't personally be taking medication orally that made me feel dizzy/drowsy just before working a shift and if you took it vaginally instead before your shift, it could potentially just dribble out before it's been fully absorbed. Even with the best pelvic floor 😁

Abit annoying I know, good luck 😊
