Hi all!
I'm 47, about 3 stone overweight and lately, I feel like I ache constantly. I've been trying to lose weight and have been eating well/exercising and am slowly seeing minor changes but still, walking up the stairs at night after sitting for a while, getting out the car after being on the road for a good distance, even getting off the sofa at night....feels like I'm tearing them from a project. It feels at times like my joints are locked and just don't want to move, other times it's like everything is just oh stiff.

Is this a common thing of perimenopsuse?. 😔

I'm 58 and post -menopausal now, but over the last 6 months it feels like I've turned into an old woman. I ache when I sit, I walk like a 90 year old when I first get up. My knees and sometimes my hips or feet hurt. Following this thread to see how others are managing the symptoms. I've never taken HRT and currently not taking any vitamins or supplements.

I'm joining! I'm 52 and feel 92. All happened in last 6 months. 12 months of peri type periods then I had covid booster in Nov and no period since. I ache. I need to do yoga daily but struggle as DC still take a lot of my time. Plus work. Maybe I should look at HRT options

56 here, with hereditary arthritis and 3 joint replacements under my belt (4th coming up in August...). I really have to try hard not to hate myself for not doing ALL my physio ALL the time, but I have 4 separate lots (shoulder, neck, back, hips/knees) and the whole routine takes about 80 minutes and I JUST CAN'T.

The main thing that helps me that I haven't seen mentioned here is epsom salt baths. A couple of mugsfull in a bath of hot water, soak for at least 20 mins - it really does help with the aches. It's stupidly expensive in most chemists, but you can get 10kg quite cheaply on Amazon.

Other than that - yes, it's shit, and cocodamol is my drug of choice. The doctors recently tried to transfer my affections to ibuprofen, but it really doesn't suit me, even with buffer drugs like lansoprazole, so I am stopping that.

Slightly jealous of those who can try HRT as, due to ovarian cancer, I can't.

Try CBD oil.

Pixiedust1234 · 08/06/2022 01:07

Reading with interest. A few have posted saying its the past 6 months its started. I wonder if its linked to the crappy weather we have had and our vit d levels have plummeted.

I have bought vit d, I just need someone to remind me to take it. Can anybody throw a wet flannel at me at 6pm every night?

Fish oil capsules. Also, Curcumin (turmeric) capsules. Twice a day.

@MoiraQueen have recently upped my dose. Waiting to see if it helps. 🤞

Oh god, it's SO horrible, isn't it? Sad I'm soon to turn 49, have had various peri symptoms on and off for about 4/5 years and started HRT (sandrena and utrogestan) about 3 months ago. I've had appalling hip-tip pain (which seemed tied to my menstrual/ovulation cycle) for years and hoped HRT would sort it out but it's not really done that. In fact, over the last 6 months I've developed new hip pain that seems to refer down to the knee and shin on that side. Tried piriformis stretches, yoga - doesn't do anything. The hip and knee pain are getting debilitating. They seem to be tied to constant lower back pain - basically I can't get comfortable on chairs, sofa, in bed - walking can sometimes ease things but then my hip and knee can suddenly start in and I'll limp home!

My mother just sighs gustily and tells me it's the arthritis settling in... she's extremely overweight and crippled by her joint pain (uses a rollator, is mid-late 70's). I can't face this pain getting any worse and hate the idea of ending up like her. (I'm about a stone and a half overweight and it won't shift.)

Is there ANY point in taking this to the GP, given their track record of sucking their teeth and saying 'wear and tear, you've got to expect it'??

GlomOfNit · 09/06/2022 10:51

How does CBD oil interact with HRT (if at all) does anyone know?? I feel like I'm on HRT on suffrance terms, the GPs are mostly opposed to any woman being on it, or only for the bare minimum time, and look blankly at you if you cite NICE guidelines. Hmm I think if I mentioned wanting to take a cannabinoid on top of the HRT I'm on, they'd get pretty stroppy!

Thank god I recently met up with a friend who's a medic but also peri, and currently educating other medics about menopause management. Half an hour with her was pure gold and made me feel a lot more confident about talking to my own GP.
