Groggy - is this a symptom?

I'm 49 and think/assume I'm perimenopausal.

Does anyone else have experience of feeling groggy? Like immense brain fog but also body fog, if there is such a thing. Total opposite of alert. Zero spring in my step. Stepping through treacle. Also a bit achey.

I've been feeling like this for about 4 days now and hoping it will lift (I've had it before too). I'm finding it difficult to work, can't focus on anything. Can't think what else it could be - I'm getting enough sleep, good diet, taking supplements (B12s/zinc/omega).

I've been like this for months and I'm assuming it's hormonal. I'm leading up to getting HRT so really interested in the experience of others who have been like this before HRT and their experience afterwards.

@IamSamantha Did you mention this to your GP and did they say hormones were the likely cause?

I've been advised not to take HRT as I have a history of breast cancer.

Yes I feel like this most of the time. I'm 53, still having periods Angrybut have lots of symptoms which I assume are menopause related.

I don't sleep well most of the time; tend to wake every few hours, so I assume the grogginess is down to that. When I do occasionally have a really good sleep I feel a lot better.
I know exactly why you mean about the body fog too!
(No HRT for me because of reoccurring blood clots).

I'm 46. Definitely peri-menopausal. Groggy, foggy brain and for the first time in my life body aches that don't seem to relate to anything in particular I have done. 😡😡😡

Yes, I feel like this. Like I can’t switch myself fully on. Groggy and foggy and apathetic. I’m on HRT which was working but now isn’t so either I need to tweak my dosage or something else is at play. Thyroid, vitamin deficiency can also make you feel offbeat as well.

"Like I can't switch myself fully on" is a really good way of describing it @Fififizz ! Some mild thyroid discrepancies came up in my bloods years ago actually - I've been taking kelp as suggested by GP , since. But might be worth getting some bloods done again.

I think you've done well @eurochick I've been getting aches unrelated to activity for a few years now!!

That's a brilliant description @Fififizz . I just keep thinking I used to be quite bright and now I feel like a woolly-headed numpty!

Yep? Walking up stairs is a real chore, I feel exhausted and my legs are so heavy! I actually fell asleep at my desk at 3.30, luckily I was working from home and not in my office. I slept for 12 hours so not lack of sleep.

IamSamantha · 23/05/2022 18:31

Agree its a great analogy. I never feel plugged in! I always feel like my battery is flashing red. I swear our stairs are getting longer 💤

Yes to the heavy legs going upstairs, it's like there are weights around my ankles!
