Lower dose Utrogestan causing PMT?

Have been on HRT for 2/3 years and was taking 2 utrogestan days 1-12. I am 54 and was still having heavy painful periods so consultant recommended taking the 2 utrogestan tablets continually as she said your periods should be stopping soon anyway and you don't want to have to deal with that.

I was happy as it was very debilitating. My periods were intermittent but it was stressing me out not knowing if one would start when I was on holiday or was busy with work etc.

Spoke to her the other day and she's recommended now dropping down to one as I haven't had any bleeding. But since I dropped down, I've had bad PMT. I just feel so low, weepy and depressed and am wondering if it's the lower dose of utrogestan. I can't find any definitive answers from my research so just wondering if it's different for everyone.

Has anyone experienced this?

TIA.

I've recently changed my HRT. I started on two weekly Utrogestan, then was 11 months without a period so GP moved me to continuous and all my symptoms came back and so did my period. So I went back to two weekly Utrogestan and at the end of month two of that I'm finding that my two weeks on Utrogestan are really hard. Weepy, anger bordering on rage, low mood, poor sleep. I'm due a check up in a couple of weeks and I'm at a loss about what to do. HRT has definitely helped my other symptoms (aching joints, migraines, hot flushes) but the mood changes are hard to deal with.

It does seem to affect everyone differently...I feel a bit better today but have also had period pains (without a period).

I felt so happy on 2 tablets every night. I might just go back to that if this continues.

Not due for another call with menopause clinic till Jan. I called them but they said I need to go the GP and they can email the menopause clinic - that's going to take bloody ages...🙄

Give it time.

Two capsules - 200mgs- is not the the dose for continuous HRT.

I'm confused about what you found before! Taking utrogestan on a cycle usually means your own cycles stop and you have a predictable monthly bleed.

How long did you use it on a cycle for 12 days? And how long have you now been using it every day?

Obviously, using it every day means you won't bleed as that is the no-bleed regime.

Many women find they have a kind of 'crash' when the 12 day dose ends, so it looks as if your body is just adjusting to a lower dose.

Out of interest, why is this through a menopause clinic- did your own GP not offer you HRT?

Have any of you tried to take it vaginally? It's the same dose. Many find it gives less of the issues.

I've done like this from the outset and no issues. My Gp said I could though it's off-licence this way.
