Help with HRT everol doses and side effects

BlondieVic · 02/05/2022 15:56

Hello all
I have recently started everol 100mg for perimenopause. Symptoms of severe anxiety, mood swings, low mood.
Could anyone advise if they felt tired to begin with? I feel so fatigued. I am only day 13 but I have to admit I did play around with the dose on day 6... went up to 150 got the jitters so came back to 100mg
Did it help any of you with anxiety?, if so what dose and how long did it take?, xxx

It takes a while to feel the benefits of HRT.
Many feel worse before they feel better.
Anxiety can take a while to calm, even on HRT.

Day 13? You need to be patient I'm afraid.

Good luck.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 02/05/2022 17:52

That's a high dose to start with it's standard practice to start on 50 for 12 weeks and go from there, saying that after 13 days it probably won't be making that much difference. Where are you getting the progesterone component of your HRT from as that's usually the culprit for mood swings and low mood?

BlondieVic · 03/05/2022 08:23

Hi all thanks 4 replying.
My progesterone is Provera 5mg.
I am new to all this, started on the gels, didnt make much difference, now private clinic put me on Everol 100mg.
I have been stupid though....i decided to add a 50mg patch to my 100, then the next day took it off, then i added a 25, then back to 100mg.
Since saturday i have been feeling lightheaded, my hands are so shaky and i feel "not with it"
I know i should know better, but i am now panicking!! Is the 100 too much or is it because i messed about with dose?
I should know better as i work in Broadmoor too....please help me as i am new to all this HRT and my anxiety has been bad since starting Peri in September. (Dr just kept giving me antidepressants as we didnt know it was peri)
I feel really vulnerable and cry alot. I know i done the wrong thing messing with the patch, but the feelings i am getting now, i feel jittery....

Just to add, this shaky feel happened good few days before i was due to take the progesterone.
I started the 100 and felt ok, same really. One day me and partner went out i the day, soft drink etc, then on Thursday just gone i had a beauty appointment, all ok, no jitters. Then on Saturday thats when all the symptoms started,

Runaround50 - did you have anxiety? if so how long did it take to go and what HRT was you on? xx

Update - spoke to private clinic that i am under in London, adamant its not the up and down on patch! i told him and told him i have NEVER had this reaction ever. He said its psychological...but i said i know my own body!
I think i will get a second opinion...i know its my fault that i did this, but to be told by a Consultant that it could be the sertraline which may i add have been on since January with NO side effects makes this unlikely!!! i am also not taking any other medication apart from Clonazepam now and then to calm my anxiety.
Sorry for the various messages but I'm desperate for advice from you experienced lovely ladies xxx

An educated guess I would say it's the provera messing with your emotions, I'm really surprised that this has been prescribed as it's a synthetic progesterone as opposed to a body identical progesterone such as utrogestan which is far safer and more effective.
As far as the patch dosage is concerned 100 is really high for someone new to HRT and very rarely is anything over 100 prescribed but you won't have done any damage upping your dose for a short time.
The biggest issue for me with your post is that a so called private clinician would tell you your symptoms were psychological if I were you I would be running a mile and finding another doctor, they sound so unprofessional with their attitude and the HRT regime that they have prescribed.

Runaround50 · 03/05/2022 20:38

I totally agree with Tina,

The regime is not correct for one so new to HRT.
A 100 dose patch would normally be worked up to slowly and over a 12 month period at least ( 3 months per increase). Obviously HRT isn't an exact science and there is scope for flexibility.

Progesterone also needs to be given time. For example, I've been on utrogestan for 3 years. It no longer controls my bleeding, so i know that if I want to continue to gain the benefits of HRT, I must trial a new regime of progesterone.

Are any of your clinicians BMS registered?

I am inclined to say, come off everything to see where your body is at? You would need to do this under the watchful eye of a professional remember, as you are on such a high dose of hormones and withdrawing suddenly will send your body into shock.

You need to ascertain EXACTLY what your most bothersome symptoms are. HRT isn't necessary going to obliterate all of them, anxiety included.
What works for one, doesn't for another, hence the complex nature of menopause treatments.

My anxiety was around driving. It took MONTHS for it to subside and much of that was caused by fluctuating hormones ( I think). I'm still not great now but I can drive the roads which I feared so much, a little better.

BlondieVic · 04/05/2022 08:27

thank you both so much.

You are right about the private Doc...i was so angry yesterday.
These symptoms as in jittery started days before the Provera, and the reason i chose this is because i had a bad withdrawal from Utrogestan.
Yes there are BMS registered, i went with The london PMS centre. But i have a second opinion on tomorrow at 2.30.
The reason i guess he put me straight on the 100 patch was because i was on 4 pumps gel before, but i still wasnt better 8 -9 weeks later.
My main symptom is anxiety that i so want rid of.
I had another female hormone test yesterday so i will get those results by end of the week.

So what you guys think i should do? wait out the 100mg for say a few weeks?
Im at work now and noticed i was laughing coming into work etc, but head still feels a bit heavy/spacey and hands shaky. xxxx

I don’t know about the dosages but are you ok for iron? Eating enough protein? All that can help alongside your hrt for anxiety and sleep etc

BlondieVic · 07/05/2022 18:51

Hi yes my diet isn't too bad....occasionally pizza night though lol.
My sleep is fine...I take iton vitamins too and all blood tests all normal xx

BlondieVic · 08/05/2022 09:42

Newgirls how long did it take for your anxiety to go? And what HRT were you on?

OP posts:
Newgirls · 08/05/2022 10:12

I’m on evorel sequi which is 4 patches of evorel conti and 4 patches of evorel 50.

I still get some anxiety but massively reduced.

BlondieVic · 08/05/2022 15:38

Cheers hun. Sorry to ask ....when starting the patch did you feel heavy headed?, spacey or jittery?, plus how lond did it take to reduce your anxiety? Did you also have low mood? Irritable feelings? Xx

OP posts:
Newgirls · 08/05/2022 17:06

No didn’t feel jittery or anything like that. Felt calmer and healthier within about 1 week?

I have been on Everest conti for 12 months, as my oestrogen was mega low the GP increased it to 2 patches at a time. This hasn’t really helped. I am now under the menopause clinic at the hospital & the specialist has now prescribed 150 patch & utrogestan 200 days 15-26. He advises me that my skin isn’t absorbing the oestrogen properly. I am B12 deficient, anemia, low white blood cells!!! Does life on HRT ever get to be plain sailing?
