Mooncup in menopause.. ouch!

Menopause.. the gift that keeps on giving.

I used mooncups for years. Had really awful periods and eventually had a Mirena, periods pretty much stopped so stopped using it.

I'm menopausal now - thought I was through it but periods resumed. I have got myself a new Mooncup. Just tried to use it and oh the pain, just couldn't get it positioned right, I had to give up. I presume this is just another feature of menopause but honestly, so fed up! Anyone else found the same?

It could be vaginal atrophy and dryness - this is something you may wish to address with your GP. As a nurse once said to me it all starts to close up down there if you don't use HRT !

The thought of trying to use a mooncup makes me wince! Always has. Period pants are awesome though. Have you tried them?

comfortablyfrumpy · 26/04/2022 22:17

Mmm. I have just started HRT so maybe that will help?

Haven't tried period pants, as yet. I am hoping though that the periods are temporary - have had a new Mirena recently and am hoping that will kick in soon and periods will cease again.

Honestly, Mooncup was so easy and reliable for so many years. The things menopause does to our bodies!

I've found the same, combo of atrophy and prolapse. And had to go down to the mini tenons as the rest are really painful too.

Thank God for period pants, just saved me from certain flooding in Tesco, the Wuka ones can really hold some liquid

Sounds painful!

I am looking at pants for my daughters, too. There seem to be so many brands now. Thanks for recommendation.

Ask your doc about Vagifem too on prescription.

i had to switch to a smaller size cup typically recommended for younger women or those who haven’t yet had children. The “correct” cup wouldn’t even open properly with any consistency and was uncomfortable. No problems at all once I did switched to the smaller size. No appreciable difference in volume really, just different shaping.

HRT only helps around 50% of women with signs of VA. It is best to get some Vagifem and/or Ovestin oestrogen cream for the area itself.
