Can we stop contraception now?

Internet advice seems to conflict about whether I am truly menopausal 1 year or 2 years after last period.

I am 48.

Last ‘period’ 18 months ago, but very very light, and a long spell of no bleeding before that.Cycles have been sporadic/ missing for over 6 years, with several gaps of over a year between periods.

Regular periods ended early 2016. Nothing for well over a year, then a month- long flood. Every bleed since then has been very very light. Tends to go for just over a year with nothing, then maybe 3-5 months of sporadic bleeds, then another long pause.

Just wondering whether we can give up the condoms? (I avoid hormonal contraceptives due to migraine triggers).

No chance of being able to see a GP as ours only seem to consult for emergencies.

You’re under 50, so 2 years from your last period you can stop. (Over 50 would be 1 year)

Yes, I agree with the previous poster. You should wait another six months as it should be two years if you are under 50.

Thanks both. I guess it isn’t worth the risk !
