Mirena coil

Does anyone have a Mirena for the progesterone part of their HRT?
Any positive experiences to share?

I’m considering it, as keep bleeding on the higher doses if Oestrogen which my body needs.

Tried doubling on utrogestan and it doesn’t make me feel great.

Thanks

Have you tried the utrogestan vaginally? My Gp said it's better for bleeding.

Have you tried having urogestran vaginally? It helped me as I struggled taking it orally. But I’ve previously had a coil, and it didn’t sit me, but lots of ladies I know get on really well with them so it’s definitely worth considering.

I did try utrogestan vaginally a few times, but it made me a bit sore (prone to that anyway) so didn't want anything there to irritate.

Really want to give the coil a go, but also just want it to work; no watching and waiting.

Might have to bite the bullet!

I have the mirena for menopause, and use it along with patches.
Very successful for me, I hit the right combination 1st time. I’ve actually had a mirena for about 23 years, again very successfully

I’ve also had a mirena for years. Initially contraceptive, then to reduce heavy periods and now as part of HRT along with oestrogen patches. Like JudgeRindersMinder I seem to have hit the right combination straight off.

I have a mirena, not for hrt but as it's the only hormonal contraception my GP would allow me into my 40s. Interesting to hear it can be carried on as part of hrt.

UnaOfStormhold · 03/04/2022 20:04

I've had mirena for about 6 months, insertion was uncomfy like a smear test, had cramping for a day, first "period" was 11 days of spotting and then nothing since, trouble free really. All I need to remember is the oestrogen gel.

Runaround50 · 03/04/2022 20:40

Thanks again all.
Will give the femeston tablet another month to see how it goes, then may investigate the coil I think.

It’s reassuring to know that it can be a success.

Alsol, those who have the mirena, can you feel it as such? How long are the strings? Can it dislodge?
Thanks.

I can’t feel mine as far as I’m aware. I occasionally remember to check the strings but as my cervix appears to live somewhere near my left shoulder*, I probably don’t check often enough Blush

*confirmed at every smear test, it likes to hide apparently.

I think there are cases where it dislodges/falls out and other problems but I’ve not experienced any of them is probably 20ish years on and off of having a mirena. I’m also fortunate that removal/insertion hasn’t been a problem at all either. The last time (last year) my GP applied anaesthetic cream liberally and was definitely items more uncomfortable than painful.

I got a Mirena inserted in 2017 and was told that it would 'see me through the menopause'. It was my first coil and I wish I'd had one years ago - made my periods so much lighter! PMT is more identifiable rather than just a red mist of rage ie I can work out cravings, exhaustion, lethargy, short temper rather than it merging into one massive angry rant at the world! i can't feel it - had it checked in 2019 and was told that the strings had wrapped around itself Grin.

FrenchyQ · 09/04/2022 20:44

I have a Mirena , it's been in 18 months and I haven't had a period in over a year now. With the patches it is working well for me (although taking while to find the best level of oestrogen for me)
