An alternative to Estriol Cream.

I'm asking for a friend who's not on here.
She has been prescribed Estriol for an itchy vulva and vagina which the GP has said is due to low oestrogen. She is using a syringe to place it high in her vagina at night. She is finding it awful as she then loses about half during the next day onto a pad. She describes it as cottage cheese.
She is finding it is affecting her sex life as she needs to use it at least 2-3 times a week and then for a couple of days after, she is still 'losing it' from her bits.
Does anyone know of a better alternative she can go back to the GP with, as this is making her so depressed and she felt a bit fobbed off.

i'd have thought Vagifem would have been a better option. Mahoosive applicator and teenytiny pessary.

Every day for a fortnight and then maintenance dose of twice a week (or to suit)

Seconding the Vagifem pessaries, although I do think they have the worst name in the entire history of silly pharmaceutical names.
I find them way less messy than the Estriol cream.

Thank you for that information. I shall pass it on to her.

I have passed it on. She is very grateful for the help and feels better armed now, when talking to the GP.

@moonflower If she has itching on her vulva, the cream does need to reach the spot, so losing some that she's inserted is actually good.

It's quite normal for it to descend but a lot will still have been absorbed.

One thing I'd question is if she is using Ovestin ? This is estriol cream. There is a generic version (used to be available, anyway) called something like Gynest. You use 10x the amount as Ovestin, so a huge tampon-like applicator, as it's only 1/10th of the strength.

If she's not using Ovestin I suggest she asks for that as the dose is about 2cms of cream in the applicator.

Regarding sex, you can use these creams afterwards, rather than before, if this helps. But the most important thing is to establish the brand she's using as there is a difference.

I have used Ovestin for years and although there is a little leakage the next morning, it certainly doesn't last for more than a couple of hours.

@JinglingHellsBells
Thank you for that. I'll pass it on.
