Sudden menopause

Hi all.

My periods stopped after having the jab at 44. I haven't had a period in 12 months and have been told by my gp that I've been through the menopause without realising. I have no symptoms except a bit of cba but that was me before anyway.

GP told me HRT would help me with osteoporosis and "other things". I asked for clarification on these other things but she just said other symptoms of which I have none.

So I'm very undecided about HRT. If I increase calcium intake and Vit D I'm wondering if I really need HRT? My GP wasn't very helpful.

Has anyone been in a similar position and not taken the advised HRT? I'm trying to research the Menopause and HRT as I know very little about it. Thanks

It can prevent the dreaded middle age spread, loss of libido & hair thinning.

Listen to your GP!

44 is classed as early menopause. average age is 51. It's medical guidance for women your age to top up their estrogen to 51 at least. This is to help prevent bone loss and also heart disease. These are serious health issues and 1: 2 women have osteoporosis (read the website Royal Osteoporosis Society.)

Calcium and vit D are useless unless your diet is deficient. and in fact there is a trend to move away from these. Calcium supplements can cause blocked arteries as the calcium is lodged in the arteries. It's best to eat the right foods to get 1gm of calcium a day ( 1000 mgs.)

Believe me! I had severe osteopenia (almost osteoporosis) in my late 40s and have had consultations with expert menopause and bone specialists for years.

Try HRT for 5 years at least and then reassess.

Thanks for your reply. It was my GP that recommended the calcium and vitamin D supplements but she didn't say I was deficient. I do eat a relatively healthy varied diet.

I might try another GP for advice on which HRT would be the best for me. Thanks.
