Sandrena v Oestrogel

Hello, can anyone advise me on this please.
I am 56 so post menopausal.
I have been using oestrogel since September with mixed results.
I was prescribed it (already have the mirena coil)
I started on 3 pumps and increased to 4 in January when symptoms returned.
However, I am struggling again mainly with anxiety and insomnia.
I have kept a diary and it appears that my symptoms return about two thirds way through the canister.
So I was thinking of switching to sandrena for consistency of the product due to it being in sachets.
I hear it is also more potent than sandrena so 2 sachets would be equivalent to 4 pumps.
Also, is it easy to switch from one to the other?

I was perfectly clear on my post yesterday at 21;59
'I’m on mirtazapine for anxiety and insomnia and HRT for my menopausal symptoms.''

I’m on mirtazapine for anxiety and insomnia and HRT for my menopausal symptoms

Anxiety and insomnia are menopausal symptoms for many women.

Menopause is not just hot flushes and sweats.

If you are interested, there are examples here from other women, as well as medical evidence.

But as I pointed out earlier I have been on and off ADs for 10 years.
The distinction is clear.

Peri menopause often lasts for 5-10 years.
So, some women who have anxiety and insomnia at 46, are in peri. Their treatment (according to Nice ) should be HRT.

The link I left in the previous post explains all of this very nicely, in several medical fact sheets, showing how anxiety, mood swings , loss of confidence etc are often linked to fluctuating hormone levels.

If you are happy with your own treatment, that's fine.
But it's a mistake to label insomnia and anxiety as a MH issue when for women in peri or post meno it's often hormonal.

SoyMarina · 22/03/2022 15:34

Again, thank you.
But my MH issues came before peri or menopause, having been triggered by an incident.
I think you've got off piste a bit too as I was only asking for advice on Sandrenda as I am thinking of changing to it.
I am happy with my MH treatment but want to tweak my menpause treatment hence my posting on this forum.

Bloody hell @SoyMarina I think you do need your dose tweaked as you have been really snappy on this thread to people trying to help!

I have only been short with JingleHellsBells.

Is there some personal vendetta going on here?

Muttley47 · 23/06/2023 18:36

@MaryQueenofEverything It comes across that way. It's quite uncomfortable reading to be honest and not seeming very kind to the original poster. I thought this forum was to offer support, kindly.

Ayeupduck82 · 07/02/2025 23:37

@SoyMarina how did you get on with sandrena? I know this is an old post. I also thought the oestrogel wasn't as effective with the new bottle and have changed to Sandrena. I find it's more potent and need less of ot compared to the oestrogel.

I'm not the OP but I went from Oestrogel > Evorel > Estradot > Sandrena, and I'm finding the Sandrena is working the best.

4 pumps of Oestrogel wasn't enough after having my ovaries removed (was ok when I was in Peri pre surgery), oestrogen levels plummeted on the patches (shame, they were convenient), and so tried Sandrena and seems to be working (I'm doing 2.5 of the 1mcg sachets/day - just use a freezer bag clip to hold the half sachet closed until the next day).

Evorel worked ok too but just kept peeling off and was crinkly and itchy like a label in my pants.

My understanding is that the different gels (Oestrogel vs Sandrena) are absorbed differently so it's not a straight swap for the amount of Oestrogen in them, in terms of a comparison.
