Return of heavy periods

Hi all,

I'm 3 months in with HRT. Now taking 1.5 (ish) pumps of Oestrogel both am and pm. Was taking Utrogestan for 12 days on then 12 days off but my GP told me to adjust this to 14 days on/off.

Prior to starting HRT I was probably having periods every 3 months or so, very irregular. The last two months Im finding that on day 10 of taking the Utrogestan I'm having a heavy period ( flooding, needing back up protection etc) which is lasting maybe 4 days really heavy, then trailing off for another 3-4. Is there anyway I can prevent these heavy periods? Am I taking too much oestrogen? Should I continue taking the Utrogestan despite bleeding?

I used to take tranexamic acid but I've checked and it seems there is a contraindication so I cant take those. It does impact on my working life etc which seems a shame as HRT has really helped with my sleeping, alertness and overall disposition.

On a side note, I'm also going to have to change from Oestrogel to Sandrina sachets this week due to the national shortage. I've left a message with my GP surgery asking that Sandrina 1.5mg strength will be the equivalent to my 3 pump daily dose of Oestrogel. Im hoping firstly this is correct and secondly that they dont resist and make me start at the lowest amount again. Does anyone have any experience of switching between these two?

Would you consider a Mirena coil for the progesterone ?
Hopefully it would stop your periods.

Hi GeneLovesJezebel,

Thanks for answering.

I don't get on with coils I'm afraid. I have a very tilted uterus which means insertion and removal is a nightmare. I had a regular coil for a few years.

I believe you can have them fitted under general anaesthetic but there's also a risk of them moving about and it leaves me feeling uneasy.

I suppose it's still early days, perhaps the bleeding will settle down. I was hoping perhaps the dosage was at fault and there was an easy fix someone else had tried and found worked.
