HRT doesn’t seem to be working as well after 3 years, any ideas?

I’ve been taking a progesterone tablet and wearing an oestrogen patch for 2/3 years having tried for a good few years before that to power through meno symptoms. The change was instant and it was a joy to be back to feeling like me again. In the last few weeks I’ve started to have some small night sweats, nothing like as bad as they used to be but noticeable enough to wake me up. However mostly I’m feeling very hormonal, just like pmt was in the last few years of having periods. I’m tearful, emotional and so anxious that I’ve started having panic attacks.

I’ll call the Dr next week, but is there anything they can do if I’m already on hrt? I take a good range of vitamins inc vit d and flordix for iron, but could I do anything else? I’m so fed up.

The most likely way forward is to increase your estrogen dose. Estrogen continues to decline so you may have less now than 3 years ago.

What dose patch are you on?

Ahh yes that makes sense, I’m on 100 - I hope there’s a higher dose as I’m an emotional mess!

There is no higher patch.
If you look at Menopause Matters website, under HRT and types, there is a full list of them all.

Maybe you have stopped absorbing from a patch and need to try something else like gel?

Sounds like you need an increase. Please check the nice guidance and balance website. You can increase even though it says max dose is 4 pumps.

You can wear two patches if needed. Louise Newson says that or you can have your patch and top up with a pump of gel. If you don’t feel right make sure you do your research so you don’t get fobbed off.

Thank you, iI wonder if this’ll be covered under our private health cover from work. I’m not going to be for fobbed off, I’ll have a look at the links.
