Question for those on continuous HRT - utrogestan

I’m slightly confused about whether I’m meant to have a three day break or not? I think the gp said take continuously and box says one 100mg tablet daily (I guess for 30 days). The guidance leaflet however says take continuously for 25 days (then presumably have a 3 day break??).

Can anyone tell me how they take it if they are on a continuous cycle? Thanks

The leaflet is a bit behind the practise now suggested by specialists which is take it every day (if post-meno.)

There is no virtue in having a 3-day break. It used to be suggested to enable any womb lining to be shed. However, most women won't have this, and if there is any spotting, after 6 months, it needs investigating anyway.

If you are using it continuously, you should be at least 1 year post meno or over 54.

My Dr has advised me to take it continously, with no break. I'm 4 years post menopause.

I take it continuously alongside the mini pill - so I take one 100mg utrogestan every single day, no breaks, and the mini pill every single day and oestrogel for oestrogen. I am 41 and in early menopause due to autoimmune issues- still have my womb etc.

Little bit complicated here as GP is treating me as post menopausal. I’m 49 but haven’t had any periods for 10 years due to mirena coil. GP says mirena would have run out so periods would have returned if I wasn’t post menopause. Mirena is currently ‘missing’ so I’m awaiting ultrasound to see where it is.

So in reality I don’t know whether I’m post menopause or not as haven’t had a period in 10 years due to mirena.

I recently saw a private menopause consultant because my gp surgery won't prescribe utrogestan. I'd been on continuous hrt tablets for a while even though I am not post menopausal and would still be having periods if I wasn't on continuous hrt. I was worried about his but the consultant said its fine. Its just the same as when taking the mini pill apparently (although isn't a contraceptive obviously). I have awful.pmt so she said that by taking utrogestan every night this would keep my progesterone levels steady which should help with the rages. Fingers crossed. So basically the leaflet in the utrogestan box says that only post menopausal women should take it continuously but this isn't always necessarily the case. I found it really helpful talking to a specialist as my GP is spectacularly useless.

I now this thread is old and I don’t know if you ever read this. But I’m going through and early menopause too. I think I still have periods but cannot say for sure as HRT makes it hard to know. My private gynae told me I should take Utrogestan daily (200mg). My GP are totally against this and say it’s not what national guidance says so they don’t approve and won’t prescribe me Utrogestan on NHS. I did a lot of searching online and cannot find anything supporting what my private gynae says. All guidelines (UK, US, AU) say it should be taken in cycles of 2 weeks a month. However, she’s adamant that’s not right because that’s for average menopause age, not early meno. She says that continuous progesterone is mimicking what my body at my age should be doing, and that it would help with mood fluctuations. I’m extremely confused and worried I’m taking too many hormones for nothing. Your post is the first one I ever found that supports her views and it makes me feel less scared. So thank you. If you’re reading, can I ask how’s that going for you?

@Lycia80 it is usually 100ml daily for post meno and 200ml for 12-14days a month for peri .
