I have Ovestin cream and it has worked like magic - no more itch!

ClariceQuiff · 08/03/2022 19:51

Obviously you need to get it checked out but Vagisil should help in the meantime. It contains Lidocaine, a local anaesthetic.

gemloving · 08/03/2022 20:02

Which part?

Vulva? Inner labia, outer labia, clitoris? Vagina?

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 08/03/2022 20:03

Vaginal moisturiser is available from the doctor.

something2say · 10/03/2022 07:21

I use one of the creams from the dr.
Yes it has sorted it.
I also bought Vulvar Harmony from Amazon and use Savlon at times too.

Find what works and keep using it.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 11/03/2022 08:51

I was prescribed Vagifem estrogen pessaries (a tiny tablet with a thin applicator to put the tablet high in vagina) and Ovestin estrogen cream.
I use the Ovestin first on my vulva and then the Vagifem as the cream helps the insertion be more comfortable. It’s not difficult though.
It’s made a huge difference. I think the pessary helps get the vagina pH right which helps the vulva too. The cream really helps the outer parts of the vulva to be softer and more stretchy.
I was nearly crying with the itching and burning before.

Can you get Ovestin cream over the counter, or is prescription only? My doctor is so shit that I don't really want to go.

DustyMaiden · 13/03/2022 18:15

I used vagisil it was very good.

RoyKentsChestHair · 13/03/2022 18:15

I asked for Ovestin but was given vagifem. They both work well. I also use coconut oil as a lube moisturiser at night time. Only ever wear cotton undies and use a pH balanced wash in the shower on those bits.

I’ve got it from an online pharmacy before. Was about £25 but I didn’t want to go to my gp about it at that point.
RoyKentsChestHair · 13/03/2022 18:18

Superdrug do it

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 13/03/2022 19:29

Remus if possible ask for an appointment with a Gp that knows about hrt. There was one in my practice but now there is also a registrar who is really knowledgeable too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/03/2022 19:34

Thanks all. Our doctors are really bad and the female one is the worst of the bunch. I'll check out Superdrug.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/03/2022 19:35

Although having said that, I assume a prescription would be a lot cheaper?

disgirl2 · 13/03/2022 23:42

I’m so itchy at times and it does get me down. I have an appointment with gp for the 21st to discuss all things menopause, first appointment…. I hope I won’t be disappointed.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 14/03/2022 00:04

My advice Dis is to make sure you come away with topical oestrogen (cream +/- pessaries) whether or not you try systemic hrt (patches, gel etc). That way you can use the topical stuff whatever and carry on using it if the hrt doesn’t suit you or you need to make changes.

Trixiebell06 · 15/03/2022 19:29

Thankyou for all your replies I managed to get some Ovestin from the Dr, reading some posts it seems like most ladies use it externally, my Dr advised internally .

OP posts:
OnTheHillNotOverIt · 15/03/2022 20:00

Do both! I read the internal helps tissue in vagina and improve the pH. It’s easy to rub a bit into the vulva to keep those tissues soft and stretchy.
The Ovestin is moisturising too.

Trixiebell06 · 15/03/2022 20:19

Is it safe to insert 1mg then put extra on the outside thanks

OP posts:
OnTheHillNotOverIt · 15/03/2022 20:27

Hopefully someone will be along with the figures but the vaginal dose and vulval use adds up to a very small dose compared to gel, patches or tablets.

Notcoolmum · 16/03/2022 21:35

Yes I use it internally and externally.

Trixiebell06 · 20/03/2022 08:29

Does anyone insert the Ovestin cream with their finger ? I find the applicator rubbish a lot of the cream gets stuck in it
