What to discuss/ask for at a HRT review

I started HRT, evorel 50 patches and 12 days of Utrogestan back in Jan and need to go back to the GP for the first repeat prescription. My peri symptoms are psychological (low mood, anxiety and insomnia).

I’m feeling a little bit better, but this could also be down to other lifestyle changes (diet/exercise, lower caffeine, no alcohol & counselling) and not due to HRT.

The first month, I had some spotting for a few days on my due date had then a light period a week later. Nothing yet this month.

Is it worth asking for a blood test to see if I’m absorbing enough Oestrogen? If so, is there a good time during the cycle to request that? although my cycle is up in the air.

Any other advice to consider or discuss with the GP. Mindful I’ll probably only get 5 mins over the phone.

There is no point having blood tests as they won't be accurate. I've used this for almost 14 years and never had a blood test. My dr considers symptom-control the best way of ensuring the dose is right.

I'd not worry about the bleeding or no bleeding yet. It's really early days as you are just a month and a bit in with all of this.

I think I'd say to your GP that you can see some improvement but it's too soon to be really sure, and just ask to carry on with what you are using. If you are using 2 pumps, you could try going up to 3, and see if that helps a little more?

Thank you so much @JinglingHellsBells - I’m on Evorel 50 patch

Sorry- missed that bit!

I'd give it longer. Specialists say give it 3 months unless something feels really bad wrong before then.

All the best with it!

I was with the Newson Clinic, and all my reviews there were just asking about symptom control. It took about 3-4 months for everything to settle and to get full symptom relief.

(Have switched to my NHS GP for prescribing my HRT and they want to do a blood test every 3 months. I'd be interested @JinglingHellsBells to know what you think of three monthly blood tests? I'm minded to tell my GP no ... but think he'd probably not prescribe anymore HRT)
