Bleeding on HRT

I was told last year I was post menopausal after some blood tests. I had my last Mirena removed and continued on Utrogestan and Eostrogel. Because of the shortage in gel I briefly went onto patches then switched back to the gel: when I did this I got really sore boobs and started a heavy period. I’ve got a phone appointment about it with a GP next week. I had an transvaginal ultrasound last July and that was ok so not too concerned about the bleed. I wonder if it’s as I’ve no longer got the Mirena in and possibly the chopping and changing in HRT?
Anyone else get bleeding on HRT when supposedly post menopausal?

I should add I’m 55. The tests last July were bloods and scan after a bleed after almost a year to the day of no bleeding. The scans and bloods were all ok but apparently showed I’m postmeno

Yes, I'm bleeding now and SO pissed off. I'm on Evorel Conti and all was brilliant for four months, but now I'm bleeding every 10 days. I will have to go to the doctor but I suspect very strongly that its the HRT.

Without knowing the r egime and dose you are on @Allfurcoatandnoknickers it's hard to say.

If you've been on a combined regime of estrogel and Utrogestan (daily 100mg) for 6 months or more, the bleeding should settle down. If not, it's classed as normal (have a read about what's to be expected with this type of combined hrt.)

Is what you describe as bleeding, light spotting or a full-on period?

Blood tests aren't that reliable. Mine showed post meno at 51 and I had more periods to almost 53.

I've been on Estrogel and Utrogestan for a while now and longer than six months. I couldn't get hold of the gel for about a month so went onto patches with the Utrogestan and then back onto the gel when I could get it again. I add one pump to the upper arms in the morning and one in the evenings and one Utrogestan tablet.

It is a heavy period - not light spotting. Yes I've heard that the blood tests aren't reliable - they certainly don't seem to be in this case! I've had two proper periods since they told me which seem to have been worse since the Mirena was taken out - that's why I had it in the first place to help with the heavy periods.

Another thing that seems to have happened since I had the Mirena out is tendinitis in my glutes which I can only describe as being like you get in pregnancy when you can't lie on your side as your hip hurts in bed. This flared up again when I came on my period - oh joy...apparently it is very common in menopausal women

The BMS suggests that women may need a higher dose of Utrogestan if they keep bleeding- so that's 200mg a day.

Your other option is to revert to a cyclical regime of 200mgs x 12 days and see if it controls the bleeds so they are at least predictable. (It's not a hard and fast rule to use continuous progesterone in post meno- I don't.)

Thanks- I’m on 100mg Utrogestan continuously one a day at present. Will speak to GP about upping it 👍
