Which supplement to use?

Hi all, I’m 57 and still have the occasional period (Last one was about 2 months ago). I haven’t suffered too badly with symptoms so far - just the occasional hot flush, a bit of joint pain and sometimes feel anxious but I just feel very ‘flat’ all the time. Not depressed really but not exactly full of the joys either.

I’m not sure if this is enough to warrant going on HRT so I was thinking of trying a good vitamin/mineral supplement first instead. Any advice or recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks.

There is no scientific evidence that proves that supplements help menopause. I think you need to look at specific products for specific issues. eg St John's Wort can help with mild depression (but so can exercise.) But you can't mix it with some common drugs so be aware.
Herbs like Red Clover of Black Cohosh can help flushes but can be toxic and aren't recommended for long term use.
Sage ( drops or tea) can help with flushes.

But adding vitamins won't do anything, My consultant is very much against this, because most of it ends up in the toilet as it 's surplus to requirements! Your body needs tiny amounts of vitamins and unless you are on a special diet, you will get all you need ( other than for Vit D.)

You might want to think about things like meditation or mindfulness to help mood.

@JinglingHellsBells - thanks, that’s helpful. I do lots of yoga already and I do find that helps. I’ve taken SJW in the past and think that helps too so might re-start it. I just thought it would be good to find a supplement that covered all bases as I often read that menopausal women are generally deficient in certain things but I guess an awful lot of them are not worth taking.

I've never read that :) and my consultant wouldn't say that.

The only thing might be iron is they are having heavy periods.
