Ultrasound tomorrow what are they looking for?

I was diagnosed as peri-menopausal last year and am on my fourth month of hrt patches. I'm 40 and in any communication I've had with my doctor she calls it premature peri menopause even though I don't think it is. Because of this she's sending me for an ultrasound which is tomorrow.
I don't know even know what they are actually looking for? Dh has offered to come with me but I don't know if that's going to be a bit daft.
I'm obviously not anticipating any issues but I'm treating it as a bit of a health mot. I assume they won't tell me anything there and then either?

How did she explain you were to have a scan- and why?
Really bad you aren't being informed of why.

I've never come across anyone having a US scan for peri menopause.
At 40 it is not unusual to be in peri although if your periods stop before 40 it's called premature meno, or between 40-45 it's early meno.

You might like to ask whoever does the scan what your dr has put on the request form and what they are looking at.

I'd assume it was your ovaries.

I had an ultrasound recently for stomach issues (not meno) and the radiographer talked me though what she was looking at and for (although I knew already).

Most hospitals and clinics are heavily discouraging companions for appointments at the moment. I think it unlikely your DH would be welcome.

I don't know what it's for. I haven't stopped my periods but she seems to consider me early to be going through the peri menopause. She said it was to rule anything out.

It's probably too late for this now @CassieJumped but it's not likely the hospital will allow your H in. You need to check their website or the letter if you have one. Most places now only allow a partner/ carer in unusual circumstances, because of Covid risks.

I had an ultrasound when starting hrt (I was 43). GP said bloods and ultrasound just to check everything was OK was standard especially when below 45. I think they are just double checking it is peri not anything else causing the symptoms.

I have one booked for peri symptoms. It's and internal ultrasound though.

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/02/2022 07:50

What were your symptoms for diagnosing peri menopause ?
I had heavy periods so was sent for an ultrasound scan of my womb to check before a coil was inserted.

No not to late, my appointment is this afternoon and I've told him I'll go on my own but thank you. X

Period only lasts one day and sometimes is only really a wipe job rather than a pad job. Hot and cold sweats, weight gain, anxiety, and lethargy. Then I had a whole host of other symptoms I didn't realise were related!

I got there with a full bladder as the letter requested.
Waited for a while then was asked to empty my bladder? Turns out it wasn't an external ultrasound as the letter suggested it was internal. Apparently I'd had the wrong covering letter attached.
Anyway all is looking normal! Thanks for the replies and info.
