Peri under 40?

I'm 37 and have ticked a lot of peri boxes over the last 6 - 12 months - hot flushes, period changes, libido out the window and the most horrific night sweats which just get more horrific every day. My mum and grandmother both had hysterectomies' in their late 40's and I suffer from PCOS, endo and fibroids, if that's relevant.

I've finally reached out to my doctor (who is wonderful with women's health) and have blood tests and an internal ultrasound booked. I actually reached out to her in summer last year as I was experiencing a very bad period of insomnia, and she put me on Sertraline - I'm not wondering if this was peri linked.

Has anyone else been in this position? What should I expect? I'm childfree by choice so the fertility part doesn't bother me, but the night sweats and the general feeling of misery does. I've not been able to take estrogen based pills in the past as they gave me migraines and am currently on progesterone only, would I even be able to take HRT/

Thanks all in advance.

Hello, that sounds very like it.

With symptoms, especially hot flushes, I'd hope they'd just do a trial. After 45 they do but might do tests as your under - it doesn't always tell you an accurate level as levels fluctuate. For example mine was apparently fine in March; by November after tracking and symptom listing she just put me on hrt (44.)

They used to offer antidepressants as a first step; these don't help bone density though. Also I found sleep and mood improved on the hrt.

If you've been able to track and list symptoms that can be helpful. They do look for hot flushes as a sure fire sign even though some women don't get them.

The Pill and HRT are totally different- apples and pears.

Pill= synthetic chemicals

HRT= identical to your own estrogen.Replacement is the key word :)

Also many women now do not use tablet form of HRT- it's a patch or gel (rubbed on skin.)
