Hip Pain at night

annieoaklie · 05/02/2022 09:29

I had v bad pgp during each of my pregnancies. Recovered ok eventually with lots of physio, Pilates etc.

My periods stopped a year ago and now I find myself waking at night with hip pain again at night. Is this another menopause symptoms? Anyone else experienced this?

Hi , I suffer with hip pain since my periods stopped 2 years ago , I’m on max dose of Oestrogel but it doesn’t help the pain which is mostly at night when I’m in bed . The pain travels down the sides of my thighs
I have been doing IT band stretches my unsympathetic lady Dr said pain is all part of the ageing progress

I get this- am post menopause.
Never crossed my mind it was menopause, but rather a combination of getting older, osteo issues, sitting down at a desk for hours a day etc.

I have it but was told its bursitis

I don't know what pgp is :) But if you have hip pain it's a good idea to see your GP and ask for a referral to a physio and / or get X-rays done to see what's going on. Don't assume it's menopause.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have a bone scan in a few weeks and will be back with GP after that so will mention it then. It feels so like when I was pregnant which is weird.

I was so delighted when my periods stopped but now so many other things to deal with 😩

I was always told that when pregnant your hip area is prepared for birth by hormone levels which alter to allow greater flexibility so it makes sense that at menopause these tendons and ligaments are also affected . This video explains why. I suffer from it occasionally now even on HRT and it was one of the reasons I went on HRT originally as I could not sleep at night.

@ChickenStripper

Thanks for posting the video. V interesting.
I am thinking of talking to my gp about hrt if it continues.

Joint pain is very common after menopause.
It's because the collagen surrounding the joints decreases- because it needs estrogen. Loss of collagen means the bones rub against each other- there is no longer a cushion between them- so, often at night people get pain although it can happen any time.

One reason that older women shrink in height is down to the loss of collagen between the vertebrae (as well as broken vertebrae with osteoporosis.)

hip or pelvis?
I have hip pain due to an injury which led to walking funny which led to shortened leg muscles which aggravated the pain...

hip flexor stretches, foam rolling and general core & leg strength exercises help a lot.

I forgot about this thread. I went to my GP and she sent me for a Dexa bone scan. Turns out I have osteoporosis. Am totally shocked as was my GP. Am only just turned 50 ☹️

HRT helped my hip pain but the dosage needed upping

stirling · 05/03/2022 23:29

I've had pretty bad hip pain but found a great, dare I say, cure.. I bought a peculiar shaped cushion that is specifically for placing in between the knees when you sleep at night. It's sculpture with grooves and an elastic to hold it in place all night. Better than a normal pillow which just gets lost every time you turn.

It helps my hip pain so much. But also recently used it for sciatica too.

1idea · 05/03/2022 23:35

I use a pillow between my knees. The pain is unbearable at times.

Classic menopausal symptoms. HRT will help and will also be helpful for osteoporosis.caused by the drop in estrogen levels.
