Sweating at night?

Am I right in thinking this is a symptom? I've recently started randomly waking up drenched in sweat. What do you do? Can't change the bed else I'd wake DH, can't really stay in it else I'd freeze and yuck. I've been getting up and going to the sofa but I can't do that regularly as I can't sleep there. Taken to keeping a spare pair of pjs in the bathroom. Changing pjs and going back to a cold damp bed is also not particularly welcoming. What can I do to stop it?

I'm the same. My duvet is 3.0, I wear knickers and a vest top in bed, yet still have some nights (not every night) where I'm throwing off the duvet every couple of hours. My husband often sleeps in the spare room. I use baby wipes to freshen myself up through the nights when I'm too hot.

My friend was prescribed Citalopram (antidepressant) for the same trouble, and she says it's helped.

I'm not too hot though. Certainly not hot enough to throw the duvet off (I'm right under the window and it's minus figures outside!). I just wake up drenched in sweat. We don't have a spare room so it bed or sofa for me.

It can be a symptom of perimenopause, you don't say how old you are.

Mine have more or less stopped since starting HRT at the end of last year.

Can you lie on a few towels with a single sheet on top and then just remove these before you return to bed?

How old are you and have your periods stopped for more than a year?

AddingMustard · 30/01/2022 18:37

I'm 40, been on the pill for years so don't get regular periods, spotting every few months or so except in the past month I've had three periods every 10 days Hmm

I think you should see your GP.

It sounds like peri menopause and at 40 you can have blood tests for your hormones (though slightly complicated if on hormonal contraception.)

It sounds as if your pill isn't actually working if you are getting breakthrough bleeding so often.

Spare PJs, a spare pillow by the bed so I can chuck the drenched one on the floor and replace, a really big bath towel handy in case I need to lie on that because the bottom sheet is clammy. If it happens frequently you could consider single duvets so you can turn yours over and sleep under the dry side. My sweats are cold sweats so, like you, just throwing off the covers is not an option. HRT helped massively, although my sweats came back with a vengeance with covid and my HRT is struggling at the minute.

Hi, I have had this since my 30s - I'm now mid 40s. I also never feel too hot but just wake up soaking wet with the covers drenched. It usually happens when I'm on my period AND when I'm ovulating. It suuuccckkkss.
The best thing I found is to wear a dressing gown. The sweat is absorbed by the gown so I don't wake up uncomfortably wet and it's much easier to wash my dressing gown (I have 3 now!).
Hope you find something that works!

You need to find the cause rather than changing your bedding and clothes.

Night sweats can be caused by all kinds of things, some serious, others not, so you really need to see your GP and have blood tests.

Had a phone "consultation". First they said it may be not enough oestrogen in the pill for me and I might need more. Then asked which day of the pill I'm on because the last two are placebos. I'm on cerazette, so they're all the same, it's progesterone only - didn't believe me so had to go and check. They've said I should carry on for a month and see what happens and maybe change to a generic version if it keeps happening.

My night sweats have now stopped; I've been taking Menoforce sage tablets. I've found that taking one at night is better than one in the morning.
