I'm 46 & have been using a contraceptive implant for the last 10 years & happily no longer have periods. But how do you know if you are menopausal? I have some hot flushes, anxiety & palpitations though these could be linked to general life. My question is for those of you using the implant how do you know if it's started? I really don't want to stop using it

Menopause is when periods have stopped for a year; the peri menopause can last up to 10 year.

The average age of menopause is 51, 45-55 being the common range.

So it's likely that those symptoms are peri menopause, the lead up to periods actually stopping and is when many women experience symptoms.

You can have regular periods during peri; I did and was really struggling with symptoms. So I think at your age with those symptoms it's highly likely and you could speak to your Gp.

I know some women continue with progesterone only pill for contraception and have hrt, others use a mirena for the progesterone with transdermal oestrogen in either patch or gel form. Not sure about implant but definitely worth a chat with the Gp.

"Hot flushes" are often a key word for them ;)

I’ve wondered the same thing OP. I have an implant but I have also had a hysterectomy (stage 4 endo and I still have some pockets of it left). I couldn’t use progesterones when I still had a womb because of severe bleeding but now, it’s brilliant and I’d be really reluctant to give it up!

I’m just going to stay as I am for now. If feel fine and oestrogen exacerbates endo symptoms so I’m going to risk it.

Thanks I feel exactly the same, will have to see how it goes. I had a pph twice when my children were born so more than happy to never have a period again but it's then difficult to know what's going on
