Had my ovaries out in 2018 and booked myself a dexa scan as the gp wasn't unterested in my risks for osteoporosis
My results were bizarre something like 5 normal deviations above 'normal' for my age - I have the bones of a 22 yo (or something, I'll have to root out the paperwork) - and my medical/family history is complicated- my brother has osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and had an oesto carcinoma in around 1990 (diagnosed abroad based on anticipated) and I have cfs/fm a fair amount of pain and reduction of movement but no rheumatoid faction - plus seen on xray (20 years ago-ish) wear & tear on hips and knees
So I was thinking post covid I'd get another scan to see if my medical menopause had affected anything
I had an xray recently where they said my hips had no wear & tear - which shocked the hell out of me!
So GP rang out of the blue
"Why did you have the details scan you are very young for it"
I explained about the medical menopause and wanting a base line, then we chatted about my family history (incl 2 great aunts who couldn't stand straight from about 65 onwards)
He seemed bemused at the connection between menopause and osteoarthritis- suggested I came off HRT as the op was 'years ago now' and I wouldn't need another dexa
I said I was staying on HRT and that as I'd been advised at my (private) scan to have another in 3 yrs I would be having another (private) scan when I could arrange/afford it and that as the results had been odd it was important to me
"What did I mean 'odd'?" He then read the report and next minute he said he'd book me one on the NHS
The whole thing seemed a bit odd
