Bleeding after menopause

As per title.
I believe I should go to GP but was wondering what to expect. Is it wise to push to see the gp asap or can I wait the normal weeks for an initial booked appointment?
Am I likely to be referred on in any case?
Tia for any advice.

I did an online econsult form then a phone consult with my surgery within 2 days. Bleeding started on 10th Dec, my phone consult was the following Wed.

I was then put on a 2-week gynae pathway, had bloods on Xmas eve and a scan on 29th Dec.

Scan showed a thickened endometrium, so I had a hysterescopy today.

I have endometrial cancer. I'll be having an mri in the next 10 days then I should get booked in for a hysterectomy within the next 6-8 weeks. Hopefully that will get rid of it.

Speak to your gp ASAP. The sooner you get checked the sooner you can deal with the outcome.

Good luck x

I was put on a two week wait pathway after infection was ruled out. It was kidney stones in my case.

Referral on the two-week pathway is automatic for any first report of post-meopausal bleeding.

While it is a very scary time it's quite helpful to know this - it doesn't mean your GP has seen something scary in your particular case - it's the same for everyone with this symptom.

They'll refer you for un ultrasound scan - if they're happy with the results of this then that will be it or if there's something to be checked further you'll have another procedure called a hysteroscopy and possibly biopsy as well.

My own story - I was borderline for further referral after the ultrasound so had the hysto. They said there was no need for a biopsy which I was very pleased about at the time but in retrospect probably would have been better to have it!
