Utrogestan advice

Aurea · 03/01/2022 14:37

I'm a HRT newbie and hope someone will be able to advise.....?

I've been on Everel 50 for three weeks now and have just started utrogestan orally (2 tabs nightly for 12 days as I still get regular periods).

Since taking the utrogestan, I have felt very low and teary and anger quickly. I'm also very windy and bloated.

I've heard it can be taken vaginally. Is this something I should consider at this early stage or should I keep going although It's making me feel horrible?

Also, if I were to switch to vagjnally, is it just the case of popping two tablets up at night for 12 consecutive days? Any specific advice for this?

Thank you so much as my GP is very accommodating but doesn't seem that clued up.

There is a whole thread about it here, some of which was posted today :)

Yes, and if you do it at bedtime wear pants as it oozes a bit.

If vaginal it’s just one tablet

CruellaDeVilla · 03/01/2022 15:47

But that’s the advice I was given for continuous use - check with your GP

Thank you. I have only just seen the other thread. Obviously it's not just me then.

Do you think I should keep taking it orally for longer first though to see if things settle? It's only been a couple of days.

It's only 1 capsule for continuous in post menopausal women.

I posted this today and it's in the other thread. @CruellaDeVilla

There has been a trend (based on 1 private dr's advice) to suggest half the dose is ok if used vaginally. It's not and this says so.

progestogens and endometrial protection

Based on current evidence if progesterone were considered for vaginal administration (out of license use) in women who experience side effects with oral intake, this should be given in similar doses and
durations to those applied to oral progesterone intake with HRT

I'd give it a whole month to see.

@JinglingHellsBells my next post stated that and suggested checking with a GP
@JinglingHellsBells my next post stated that and suggested checking with a GP
The dose for 12 days use per month is 2 capsules.
The dose for continuous is 1 capsule.

It' s the same dose whether it's used vaginally or orally.

GPs may not be up to speed.
The new guidance from the BMS came out only in October 2021.

Some GPs have been following 'unofficial' advice that half the dose is okay.

Thank you again

May I also ask if it has been taken at night vaginally? Will it still work during the day? I guess it's absorbed pretty quickly.

You can use it at any time. The night time guidance is for oral use as it's a sedative and can also cause dizziness.

Be aware though that it needs to be absorbed and sometimes lying down is the best way to stop the capsules falling out. I've not tried daytime myself but may do so.
