Utrogestan daily when perimenopausal

I read (either on here or on a menopause FB group) of someone who is perimenopausal but takes 100mg utrogestan daily instead of 200mg for 12-14 days. I think she said it was the Newson clinic who gave her that regimen. Does anyone else who is still perimenopausal take it daily? Can I ask why you're on that regimen rather than the 12-14 days?

I'm asking because I'm perimenopausal and on the 12-14 days regimen, but I get a very sore vagina (a bit like thrush) the week after I finish utrogestan and also premenstrual symptoms. I'm wondering if I could switch to 100mg every day if that would prevent those side effects. Before I speak to my doctor though, I just wanted to see if there were other perimenopausal women doing the same thing.

It might not work for you that way.

The reason is it won't control the bleeding enough- your own period is likely to break through.

During peri you have your own estrogen (surging and falling sometimes all over the place!) and it's likely that 100mgs utrogestan won't control the build up of the lining enough.

You could try but you might end up spotting all of the time or you might find you get thrush all the month :(

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining - that's really helpful. I guess I'm going to live with it then because all the other benefits of HRT are outweighing this!

If and when your own periods become further apart- like maybe one every 3 or 4 months- you could give it a go then?

Thanks - I'll definitely bear that in mind and mention to my doctor.

BTW I've read your posts on other threads over the past few months and you're really helpful.

Yes, this is what happened to me. I was 56 when I started HRT, hadn't gone more than 9 months without a period, so it was worth a try. I'm on a cyclical regime now, so at least I know when I'll bleed!

I am on that regime- 50 and was still having periods which were either heavy or barely there.

I don't get any breakthrough bleeding as yet- its been 5 months.

I’ve just finished 25 days of HRT patches and utrogestan tablets and was expecting to bleed now but so far nothing. Not sure what that means? I was getting periods v irregularly beforehand, something like 3-4 months but was expecting to revert to regular monthly cycle based on what the gp said, but maybe I misinterpreted that?

Has anyone had anything similar?
