Covid vaccine/long Covid/immune response query

Suspiciousmind20 · 18/12/2021 10:40

I’m thinking about getting my booster today. But, I am peri menopausal. HRT is helping. Previously before my period, if I got a virus I’d get it really badly. I Did a bit of lightweight research and it seems hormone levels dropping can effect immune system.
I’ve had both vaccines - small reaction but mid cycle so all fine. I’ve had Covid in Oct and now have some long Covid stuff left over.

First day of period today and I am thinking about getting booster as we are in the area where they are doing them today. But am concerned it’s the wrong time in my cycle and I’ll have a bad reaction.

Anyone know anything about this? It feels like the understanding of women’s bodies and how hormones effect various things is so new that I’m sure this hasn’t been looked into but anyone been in similar situation and how did it go?

The question is should I go for it today or leave it a few days to be in a different place on my cycle rather than I should I get it or not.

TBH given the state we are in now with infections rising, I'd not over-think the timing. You need a booster asap. They say that a few months after the 2nd jab, your immunity to Covid may be as low as 35%.

(I have no idea where I was with any of my jabs- had all3 plus the flu one) and it made no difference to my reaction (hardly any side effects.)

Go. I was on my period for my booster and all was fine.

BunnyBlanket · 18/12/2021 13:07

Second day that is.

Have you had problems with your immune response near your period too? It’s that that’s making me consider delaying. My immune response seems compromised just before my period. I do t yet know if HRT has made a difference. Rates are still declining here so I’m thinking I’ll delay a couple of days so I’m on the up rather than at a low ebb.

But if you are on hrt, your hormone levels will be pretty constant. the hrt overrides your own hormonal fluctuations. Not sure what you read, but the unless it is robust science, I'd ignore.

where are you? In most of the UK and Europe, Omicron is not declining.

Suspiciousmind20 · 18/12/2021 17:42

Covid rates declining generally. Omicron may not be here yet. It will come.

I’m feeling really rough so have decided to wait a couple of days. I have a headache, sore throat and am very cold so it may be a virus rather than just hormones.

You aren't in the UK then?

If you are on HRT you will not have the ups and downs of a natural cycle.

You will have a steady and predictable level of hormones, so the research you mentioned doesn't apply to you.

Sounds like you need to do a lateral flow test with those symptoms Shock

JinglingHellsBells · 18/12/2021 18:24

Or a PCR test!

BunnyBlanket · 18/12/2021 18:39

Sounds like you have covid!

Suspiciousmind20 · 18/12/2021 19:03

But with HRT wouldn’t your own hormones still ebb and flow? The HRT just doesn’t allow the lows to get that low?

Like I said it’s prob virus. Not long had Covid so can’t test yet. A non Covid cold is doing the rounds in DS school so most likely that if it’s not hormone related. Impossible to know for sure. I’m staying in anyway to be on the safe side.

I decided to delay the booster anyway as best not to have it if I am ill or under the weather. Also if I’ve got something I don’t want to spread it around. If I feel miraculously better tomorrow chances are it was hormones as that’s my pattern.

I am UK butter rural. General Covid rates in the last week are down by just under 200 per 100,000. They will be starting to go up soon I’m sure and def after Xmas when people come back from visiting.
