Weird meno symptom?

Just seeing if anyone else has this, and if so did anything help? My scalp has got increasingly tender in the last few years. Sometimes it's worse than others. At the hairdressers the other, having my hair washed was not the relaxing experience it should have been. TIA for any advice.

No one cares about my poor sore head! Sob, and hopeful bump.

I care.....as I have similar. It's not constant, but when it's sore, it's awful. It hurts to wash it or brush it.

I've also noticed I now get horrible sore acne type spots on my scalp. They never come to a head, just lurk under the skin and hurt like hell if you brush over them.

I'd never thought about it being meno related, just put it down to some weird reaction to hair products as I've got eczema and am prone to skin reactions.

I find that when it's really sore T-gel shampoo works well or if I catch it in the early stages, then Molton Brown purifying shampoo with Indian Cress helps calm my scalp down.

Oh that's interesting Pud, thanks, sounds like that shampoo is worth a go for me. I'm not sure it definitely is meno/peri related, but has certainly got a lot worse over the last couple of years. Sorry you are suffering too.

It's such an annoyance. It was a big trial and error to find what worked best! Hope the shampoos help you.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/12/2021 17:29

Thanks, I'm intending to have a go when I have used up some of my enourmous stash of existing shampoo. Weirdly, at the moment, it isn't quite as bad!

Do you wear your hair in high ponytails OP? I do sometimes and get tender scalp especially if I sleep with it in.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/12/2021 17:36

No Karen, I'm too old! Grin

But it's a good point @KarenofSparta. On the very rare occasion I wear combs at the side, it does feel more sensitive when I take them out.

Yes op. I get this on occasion too. I’m 48 and peri.

TheDogsMother · 31/12/2021 09:02

I have this and wondered if it was a meno symptom. Unfortunately mine is accompanied by greater hair loss than usual, worryingly so. I am on HRT now and use scalp drops from a trichologist but no change so far and it's been about five months. My scalp can be really tender at times so you have my sympathies.

superblondie28 · 31/12/2021 09:08

I think I get this maybe. My scalp feels kinda tight and itchy but there's physically nothing wrong with it. My hubby looked. No dandruff. No, dare I say it, nits!!

Also, where I used to have a ponytail for my just below shoulder length hair, I'd get a really sore head and accompanied headache. Like tension headache. I don't have thick hair either.

My solution was a bob style haircut above shoulders in the summer months. No hair accessories needed. For winter, the same. I wear a hat when outside incase the weather affects my scalp.

polkadotpjs · 31/12/2021 09:40

Yes. I'm incredibly hair sore now. I find ginger shampoo from the body shop helps

EatAllDay · 31/12/2021 09:44

All of this happens me too. I have extremely thinning hair on top. Depressing actually. Also get sore spots on scalp. Can be itchy too with no dandruff or anything visible. Hairdressers hurt so I have to ask them to be gentle

Nightmare 😥

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 31/12/2021 11:46

I started some tablets, Nutrihair? They aren't cheap, but they have slowed up the thinning. I should be too old for this as I'm 60 now...

It can be due to low levels of vitamin Bs. If you aren’t taking any supplements it may worry trying a b vitamin combination and see if it helps.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/01/2022 15:07

That's interesting Siri.I didn't know that. I do take a vit B supplement( other reasons) but it still seems to be an issue.

Should've said I think I'm Peri too.

HermioneGrangersHair · 02/01/2022 13:26

Wow! I have this too and honestly never thought it could be menopause ( feel a bit dim now). It feels exactly like when your hair is up in a pony tail then you take it down - that’s his if describe it!. Very sensitive scalp at the front /top of my head, the back and sides no sensitivity at all. Weird.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/01/2022 15:01

Don't feel dim. I had no idea, that's why I came on here! Maybe it's just an age thing, or maybe it will go after the whole blasted meno is done with. Hoping for the latter, of course. :)

I have to get the hair washer to be a bit gentler at the hairdressers, but she always washes my hair like she has hands and the strength of a trucker, despite being petite. I think she doesn't like me, as she always comments on how much hair I'm losing. Makes me want to smack her, but my actual hairdresser is really good, and I like her and she's local, and I'm lazy, and need my roots doing every 3 weeks Grin
