Hi
I been following some of these threads and have learnt so much !
I've been on the mini pill for years and came off a few months ago ... I'm
Permanently single and my periods are manageable now so didn't see the point.
I'm 47 now & experiencing so many symptoms that many of you mention, the feeling of not knowing what I'm doing , what have I done with my life , emotional then numb, tired all the time , etc etc so I managed to have a phone app today with a new Gp ( I've just moved ).
He was really nice told me there would be no point taking the blood test because almost all women over 45 would show positive .. as peri I think he meant.
I'm also on a high dose of anti depressants and he suggested a ecg and blood test to rule out other things first , then to have a consult once the results are back about possible hrt , the risks etc.
I've been on this higher dose age for over a year so I'm guessing it's peri but was surprised to hear about the test not worth having
Has anyone else had this from their gp

It sounds as if you might be one of the many millions of people hitting the headlines today who are on ADs when they ought not to be (and the concern on this.)

Why are you using them? Genuine question, as they are not for peri issues which can mimic mild depression and anxiety, and give palpitations (very common.) Have you previously been diagnosed with moderate depression?

There have been loads of articles in the press about GPs giving menopausal women ADs and NICE says it's wrong too- they said that 6 years ago and GPs still do it.

Read the website of Dr Louise Newson - it's now called Balance - and it will answer all your questions.

I order blood tests & take blood samples.
If I try to tick the box for a blood test -FSH menopause- for a woman 45+, it actually comes up with a box saying that it isn’t to be carried out on woman 45 & over.

@JinglingHellsBells thanks for your reply I will read into this and the website.
I've been on them for a couple of years now ... they diagnosed me with depression and ptsd and last year put my
Dosage up because I wasn't feeling much different. The dr suggested a ecg due to being on them and that the symptoms could be a result of them ... I do think it's more peri though because I would of felt these symptoms before ... it's the absolute change in my energy etc I've never felt so flat and the flushes etc the brain fog is just rubbish
I do want to come off them and wean off so will talk to him about that ... thank you :)

@MeetMeAtOurSpot that must be what he meant then about it not worth doing so he suggested a blood test and ecg at the same time.
He actually seemed to want to help which was nice as I'm
Used to just having a quick phone chat due to the pandemic.
Thank you for your reply too

It sounds as if he is half clued up but not 100%!!!!

You have

brain fog
flushes
lack of energy
you are 47

EVERY SINGLE ONE IS A SYMPTOM OF PERI

How much else does he need to do or know?

Why an ECG?

It seems an extraordinary waste of time and resources when you have ALL the symptoms of peri ( there are 34 by the way!) and he could have suggested hrt straight away.

foxlover47 · 24/11/2021 19:15

@JinglingHellsBells he asked me if I had been for a ecg recently as the AD's can cause heart palpitations /irregularities and I said no as I haven't experienced any so he said to have one and a blood test to rule Anything out and then we can talk about hrt , and then he said the same what you did that they are peri symptoms at my age

He sounds very thorough.
I suggest you look through the HRT options so that you know what he will be talking about, and what you’d like to have.

foxlover47 · 25/11/2021 13:26

@GoodnightGrandma yes I def will
So I'm
A lot
More informed
