Feeling ill all of the time

Although my GP refuses to accept it I think I am 6-9 months into peri.

I feel rotten all of the time - joints ache, tired, hot flushes, cold flushes, irritable, tearful.... do anyone else relate to this?

How old are you?
You should be able to start HRT based on those symptoms alone if you are 45 or over. I am 45 and have just been prescribed HRT with similar symptoms.

How old are you? You need a new GP!

Sounds like classic symptoms!

evenflo3 · 23/11/2021 19:23

I'm 44, the GP argued with me that I am 'not old enough' to be peri.

I had an erroneous low thyroid count a while back, I have agreed to recheck that and then will return to argue the point.

The annoying thing is that I am a medic myself and find this 'diagnosis by age' baffling.

I can empathise. Everything aches and hurts and i keep feeling I'm coming down with something but it just goes on and on! I'm tearful and anxious a lot of the time and just had to take a few weeks off as I'm finding it overwhelming on top of the sleepless nights and very stressful job.

Menopace has had some effect. It's a mild improvement but I've felt slightly better after starting it.

Hope you can try another GP who can help with it OP?

Your GP is talking utter rubbish, I would suggest you change your GP. Have a look at Louise Newton, she is a menopause guru. Do your research and take it with you, don’t be fobbed off.

So bloody sick of the way so many GP’s have no clue regarding womens health.

I too feel like death. Like I've got the flu and everything hurts. Migraines, chills, brain fog like I forget the most basic of words and have to re read everything yet just cannot remember anything. I bleed for more days than not. I'm 43, been like this for most of this year if not before. I'm trying suppliments which helped for a few months. I've spoken to my GP recently to be told.......give it a few more months and if you're no better we'll do blood tests. Op I get it. It's not fun and I'm about on my knees now as well.

Youaremypenguin · 23/11/2021 19:35

I'm reaching the end now. My period started up again today and Ive got another migrain, nauseous and feel very dizzy but because I'm only 43 and obese I'm preparing for a battle. I'm probably flipping anemic. I know the GPs are really stretched and worn out themselves but it's almost like on my 45th birthday suddenly I'll be listened to 🙄

So sorry for everyone else feeling like this it's awful. I can relate to the constant feeling of 'coming down with something' - I feel I've been ill for months now.

I did tell the GP that I didn't agree with what she said. It got a bit bizarre when she told me to look at the Balance website - the GP wasn't following ANY of the advice on there.

I will get my thyroid done and then go back again. In many ways it is a bit reassuring that this isn't just me - the GP was edging down the path of this being chronic fatigue syndrome - which it absolutely is not.

Keep fighting! You know your own body. I'm going to do something about mine.

Could have absolutely written your post and I also have an underactive thyroid. When thyroid levels are good I still feel awful but when it's been a bit under its horrendous!

Get thyroid levels sorted out and push for hrt. Just been given patches and okayed to use progesterone vaginally. I don't think this is all thyroid though.

I had thyroid issues as young adult and "all" it did was give me extreme cfs exhaustion and brain fog. None of the other delights I have now, though definitely worse when it's not been good. Period flu for example.

You could get yourself on the waiting list at a meno clinic while the Gp sorts out the thyroid. The issue might be that you won't get to your best baseline symptom wise with thyroid levels unless hrt side of things is supported. Though thyroxine will help a lot.

evenflo3 · 24/11/2021 08:01

@WarriorN - you mention period flu! Thank you! I have this and nobody ever believes me!

I thought I had Covid till I googled "period flu" and it matched my cycle each month!

I was getting that when not properly treated with the right amount of thyroxine.

However there still ongoing other issues despite thyroid being stabilised, hence hrt.

A better ferritin level and b12 level did help a little with brain fog but so many other symptoms, including over heating at night and a few occasional hot flushes, rage, make me think it's worsening peri. Joint pain is horrific, but better mid cycle.
