Final Period - was it different?

Peri-menopausal here, and keep wondering which “period” (I no longer ovulate and haven’t for a year, but still bleed for a couple of days a month) will be my last. Were there any tell take signs it was your final period? Thanks in advance!

Not able to answer your question, as unfortunately I'm still goingcan't wait for the fuckers to stopbut I'm curious to know how you know you're not ovulating? And surely if you're not, it can't be much longer for you?

Usdyen · 19/11/2021 15:31

@lovemysituation

So for me it was initially mid-cycle bleeding, no EWCM, and this has since been confirmed with tests (scan and bloods). Been about a year now by my calculation.

Leading up to the menopause my periods were more intermittent (after having mostly been very regular) and 'spotty' for several days each month due to a polyp - which had to be removed. That went on for a couple of years. Apart from that there was no indication that this was to be the last. If there was a way of knowing I'd have done cartwheels round the garden to celebrate. After all, let's face it, they're crap, aren't they?

Usdyen · 19/11/2021 15:42

Thanks @prettyteapotsplease
Mine haven’t been too bad really, I can’t complain - regular/predictable and not too heavy. But I do wish there was some kind of countdown or way to know!!

Mine ended..no memory of exactly when but a year later after having no period whatsoever l flew to Italy and got a period after landing. No period for a year but the exact same thing happened when l flew on holidays the following year. Very weird. That was the final one. Never happened on holidays since.

You're right there teapots, it's only after they went haywire, I realised how lucky I'd been for the previous 30 years when they were light, and life just carried on with barely a second thought. Now I completely understand how bad they can be, and every month, I'm angry that it's here yet again. So tedious. Usdyen what's EWCM please

Usdyen · 19/11/2021 16:14

@LoveMySituation egg white cervical mucus

Thanks @junebirthdaygirl - how weird?!?

I'm sure I read somewhere that we're all meant to have a certain amount of 'eggs in our baskets' iyswim but we're hardly likely to count them are we?

LoveMySituation · 19/11/2021 16:39

Thanks Usdyen. Come to think of it, I don't think I've noticed any of that recently. I wonder if those ovulation tests you can use when ttc would work?!

Amdone123 · 19/11/2021 16:50

I wish I knew the answer to this. I'm 54 and my last period was February. As far as I can remember, it was pretty normal. I wish I'd known it was my last ; I'd have had a farewell party. It's like a friend (not) I haven't seen I a while. Sat here a bit ago thinking, ' Hey, not seen so n so for ages!'
I must be menopausal but apart from hot flushes, no other symptoms. Strangely, I do get pmt symptoms. Monthly I think.
I believe you can order something online that tells you how far in the menopause you are. From superdrug I think.
I apologise for my probably useless information!

Usdyen · 19/11/2021 18:36

I suppose the ovulation sticks would work for this too… don’t see why not?
Curious about the Superdrug option. You can have your AMH measured, which is ovarian reserve, which I guess is the best one can get to counting one’s eggs!

I had regular monthly periods until age 55 🤨 then skipped a couple of months before a very light period. Not had a period since. It was odd because I just felt like it was the last one...and I think it was. Bam, just like that. I post on a menopause forum and it really does look like everyone is different. Just note your periods in a diary as you can forget when the last one happened.

Usdyen · 19/11/2021 20:24

@Mrsblobbyspants intrigued by the feeling. Did you feel it at the time of the last period, or afterwards you kinda felt “done”… ?

I think, straight afterwards, I just had a weird feeling that I would never have another period again. Sounds odd looking back and it may have been a bit of relief that finally something was changing. I'm still not officially in menopause as it is only 10 months but I feel that all the turbulence of peri-menopause has settled. Maybe i'm picking up on my hormones changing.

Usdyen · 20/11/2021 07:04

Thanks @Mrsblobbyspants - that makes sense

Apparently anovulatory periods tend to be heavier than ones where you ovulated.

I'm expecting my 'last one' will pass without being remarkable in any way.

Hoesbeforebroes · 20/11/2021 09:10

I've missed my last 2 periods so too early to say if I'm done for good. But the last one I had back in September was normal for me.

StevieNicksscarf · 20/11/2021 09:42

I had two within 2 weeks back in May and then 158 days without anything and thought I was done.

Then in mid October had a proper one. Thought maybe that was it, but since then I have had them every two weeks. Feels like my body is playing some cruel trick and am heartily sick of it now because I have no clue how long this is going on for.

Am actually really looking forward to the menopause now. I'm 52 btw.

Usdyen · 21/11/2021 08:09

Thanks everyone. I also want it to just be over now!
