Anyone using utrogestan vaginally?

Has it made you better able to tolerate it?

Do you use 100mg or 200mg daily?

Using it vaginally is "off licence" which means it is not being used in accordance with the drug manufacturer's testing and the official guidance so the prescriber has to accept legal responsibility for any adverse effects. Is your GP or specialist happy for you to use it in this way?

Yes.

I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who is using this method. Thank you.

Hi I am. It's made it much easier for me to tolerate although I've lost the improved sleep benefit which is a bit of a shame.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/11/2021 07:34

I have used it that way for several years.
I use it on a cycle, so that's 200mgs for the number of days per cycle my consultant suggests.

The downside is it does leak at night ( more if using 2 capsules than 1).

The upside is you don't get the side effects of feeling drowsy or depressed.

Sometimes after a few days I do get some slight irritation so swap to taking it orally for a night or two.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I did wonder if it might irritate.
Do you also take 200mg @Puppylucky ?

You can get utrogestan in 200mg soft vaginal capsules too but they’re more ££££. I’m not sure it would make much difference though.

Yes, on the advice of my GP
1 tablet every other night

You just use 2 of the 100mgs. Same thing but smaller.

I pay for my own and know the difference in cost!

@JinglingHellsBells my message was really directed at the OP. I thought it might be helpful for her to know that there is a specific utrogestan vaginal product.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/11/2021 19:24

@Deux The 200mgs version is not available now on the NHS as part of HRT. It was some years ago. Now, it's only available for fertility treatment. The 100mgs capsules are identical (I've had both over the years). They are just smaller so 2 are used.

MammaLovesLeopard · 16/11/2021 23:02

I have the 100mg tablets.

About to try vaginally.

I'm worried it's going to make me feel terrible like it did orally though.

Do any if you know if it's possible to get progesterone patches to take sequentially! Hmm
