Joint pain and stiffness what helps ?

I am definitely peri menopausal 48 and despite insomnia and bad moods, was coping ok. However, in the last 3 months the joint pain in my hands, legs and toes has been terrible, especially in the mornings.
I had blood tests and X-rays and fortunately no sign of arthritis but I desperately need to reduce these pains.
I exercise severa times a week and have a good diet. Any tips would be appreciated.

Magnesium supplements help alongside B12 injections and a good dose of daily (extra) vitamin D. Light yoga (like Yoga With Adrienne on YouTube) is fab if you're a little mobile and Epsom salts for the bath!

Losing weight if you need to, and warmth - wheatgerm, electric blanket, legwarmers etc

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2021 22:41

Glucosamine and turmeric supplements work for me.

HRT is another option if you want to go down that route.

FindingMeno · 10/11/2021 22:41

Wheatie not wheatgerm

Vitamin D spray, vegetable based iron capsules or liquid (Floradix or Feroglobin) B complex tablets. Other people say magnesium too. But for me the best of them all is Vitamin D spray. I use D-Lux (Holland & Barrett sell it). It instantly cures those deep bone aches that used to wake me up in the night.

HRT. I have suffered with terrible aches and pains, stiff joints, the lot. But the other day I realised these have all stopped. I've been on HRT for about six months now and it has made a huge difference to my mobility. Might be worth exploring...

Hrt worked but the other side effects made me give up

I now take a high dose soya supplement plus menonpace and sage supplements. That seems to help a lot.

Many thanks for all your replies. Lots of great suggestions that I will look into.

HRT. I had awful foot, hand, shoulder, neck and jaw pain that went within 2 weeks of starting HRT. I have noticed it creeps back in though if I eat too much sugar.

Shirtyllama · 11/11/2021 11:36

Following with interest, am suffering with hands and wrists particularly. I've just started HRT and the worts of supplements recommended above and have bloods and xray in the pipeline. Need to cut down sugar, lose weight and do more exercise, hard to stick to this though..

Definitely cyclical aspect to the pain, I'm perimenopausal with fairly regular periods and it's worse around ovulation.

Shirtyllama · 11/11/2021 11:37

*sorts, not worts!

Oestrogen made my joint pains & terrible morning stiffness go away immediately. I was utterly gobsmacked as hadn't expected that!

Swimming lots outside also massively helps OP.

CMOTDibbler · 11/11/2021 21:41

I have really sore joints atm, so although my other (peri, did a Superdrug online Dr test this week and FSH is 7.9 and I'm 49) symptoms are limited to night sweats and possibly a skin super sensitivity to the sun, this sounds like giving HRT is going to be worth it.

MissyB1 · 11/11/2021 21:44

Yet again I desperately wish I could take HRT Sad I had breast cancer so I can’t. Joint pain and stiffness drive me insane! I do Pilates and swim a lot. Even so I still often have a stiff back and sore knees. Not an ounce of fat on me either.

PeriChristmas · 11/11/2021 21:52

So collagen is supposed to be really good for joint pain. Anyone tried this?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 11/11/2021 21:59

Pilates.

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2021 22:03

Low carb eating, and especially low sugar. Interesting to see another poster saying it gets worse with sugar.

falgelednl · 11/11/2021 22:17

Following with interest.
I am just coming up to 49 and the last couple of years seem to indicate that I am perimenopausal but have done nothing to sort it out.
I am making a list of all above to work my way through and see what might make it easier to move.
