Crushing fatigue around period

WarriorN · 29/10/2021 16:19

I've started to be in a chronic fatigue like state for around a week or so around my period. My lower back is also very painful and joints generally v stuff in the mornings.

The rest of the month isn't much better though I can have a few days of high energy here and there, only to then crash.

Periods are regular (24-27 days, mostly 25.) they're quite short, 2-3 days with second day v heavy and the others not much to notice.

Occasional brain fog but Better since I took some b12 and iron. I feel generally very low motivation but mood is ok otherwise.

I had a few hot flushes in the summer not long after jabs. Seems to have settled now.

Does this sound like peri and could hrt help?

Oh, I hate side affect leaflets and Google.
Managed to frighten myself now!
Doctor said low dose [not seen prescription yet as being sent to pharmacy] and felt there would be benefits!

WarriorN · 01/11/2021 20:36

Good luck with it!

Randomly bumped into an acquaintance who was off to pick up her hrt! Had a quick chat. Will call Gp

Good luck Warrior.
We can compare notes!

I'm 45. I had crushing fatigue and low mood/motivation around my period.
What has turned me around is HRT, vit b12, vit D and Saffron which helps cyclical depression ( according to studies is equivalent to Prozac but without the side affects)
What also helps for me is no sugar and processed food, lots of sleep and Nordic fish oil.
Feel on top of the world now.

  • oh and daily early morning walks
Idessa · 01/11/2021 21:18

No idea but I'm 30 and have recently started experiencing horrific period related fatigue. I really feel for you.

WarriorN · 02/11/2021 05:45

That's interesting to hear cozy, I do take vit d, b12 and also was taking fish oil, bit recently ran out. I read some studies on taking more around period too.

However I'm not taking the hrt so might be the answer.

I heard some of dr mosely's series, the early morning walks one and that sounds good, my 3 yr old is quite clingy in the mornings though and it's generally rather chaotic. good reason to get a dog

I have been more regular with women's supplements though even then it's like- low dose, bigger doses of vits etc! [Seven Seas 50 plus for example vs Well Woman Max]. I worry about taking anything!

Hence, it is a big deal taking hrt. Side affects concern me yet this femoston also maybe good for bones, etc. In fact, in short term could be benefits. And, that is the problem isn't it? Women like me have been scared silly. I am slim and read on Google that slimmer women have more of base breast cancer risk than less slim.
Yet, also read that leaflets and advice needs to be updated.
I did not watch Davina Macall programme. In fact been avoiding all things menopause as had hope to plough through without support.
My brain fog and anxiety has made me change tack, hence this 3 month trial of femoston...
Ps:
Having period symptoms but not arriving. Wish it would or just never come again. At 55 I feel should be near end of this...

DinkyDaisy · 02/11/2021 16:24

Got my tablets.
Leaflet bit terrifying, but I guess most side affects leaflets are- even paracetamol!
It is Femoston 1/10mg
As still having periods [well think going to have another one] it suggests starting on first day of my period.
Will wait a bit for that. Think due...
However, when mention cancer/ dementia/ bloodclots in the leaflet- makes me wonder if I should bother taking them...
As part of my symptoms brain fog, don't want to make it worse!

I hope it's helpful @DinkyDaisy

How are you feeling?

DinkyDaisy · 06/11/2021 12:33

Ok, I think!
Bit of breast tenderness but may have had that anyway...
Also, a sense of relief I am trying something...

Hello. I’m sorry to comment on such an old post but Reading this it’s exactly what I’m experiencing - to the letter. I’m struggling, suffering and keen to hear from people who have been through this.

I’m 40 and for the last two years have experienced debilitating hormonal fluctuations including migraines and , like you, heavy fatigue from exactly 1 week before my period up until about days 3 or 4.

2 years ago I had my hormones tested privately and all of my levels came back normal for my age group i.e. no signs of perimenopause.

for context, I get v anxious because My mum has severe M.E. ( a horrendous illness with no support or treatment) and a lot of of the symptoms overlap a - which makes me really really nervous. Sometimes I wonder if it’s as simple as ‘hormones’.

I am wondering if you ever got to the bottom of how you were feeling or ever received any kind of diagnosis? Any input you can give me I’d be really grateful for because the GPs have so far been useless.
