Hi , I’ve always had a bit of hair loss but lately it’s been getting worse strands of hair everywhere
I had bloods done recently all normal I eat a well balanced diet and have been on 2.5 pumps of Oestrogel & progesterone since June
I’m not the sort to even consider supplements but am willing to try anything ,
Any recommendations please ? Or shampoos ?

My hair really thickened up when I started using paraben free shampoos and conditioners. It took around 6 months but people started commenting on how nice and thick it looked, it’s still thinner than it was pre menopause but it is loads better.

I use noughty shampoos

And faith in nature conditioner, there is quite a big range but not all listed for some reason

Have you had tests for thyroid / diabetes?

WhereAreWeNow · 29/10/2021 21:25

Have you tried iron tablets? I'm having the same problem at the moment so I sympathise.

I’ve had full bloods done all normal , I do take a vit D supplement . The hair loss worries me it’s getting to the stage that I hate brushing my hair as it flies everywhere.

Me too. It's depressing-clumps of it and I have thin hair to begin with. Haloween Sad

Minoxidil is the only topical treatment that has worked for me. The cause for me was female pattern balding (ie hormones) and thyroid issues (despite medication). My hair is so much better than it was 18 months ago.

Sorry to hear about your hair loss.

I am 49 and mine is thinning too, I have had blood tests and told all ok but then GP said iron levels could be higher (they are 19) and she suggested 60-80 would be better 🤷‍♀️

In the past I had same issue and took iron tablets and noticed new hair growth once I started taking them.

You have my sympathy, I'm going through the same. In my case, it's been diagnosed as androgenic alopecia, so age and hormone related. Regarding your blood tests - sometimes a level can be within the 'normal' range but too low for optimum health. Iron, for example, often needs to be at a certain level for optimum hair growth, I think it's something like 100 or above. The normal range here is 11-315; I was at 11 and they still classed me as needing no supplements! I eventually got them but had to push. That was when my hair loss was related to low iron stores.

Also, unfortunately, when I tried HRT my hair loss got even worse so I had to stop it. It seems that whilst a lot of women do find their hair recovers on HRT, there are some that find it exacerbates hair loss.

You can buy Regaine on Amazon.
