HRT after hysterectomy

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here.

I have just had a full hysterectomy - ovaries, tubes, uterus and cervix all removed. I am 51. I've had some menopause symptoms for the last few years on and off but nothing too major.

Obviously now I've had the hysterectomy that is likely or possible to change. The Dr in the hospital has tried to prescribe me Tibolone which is a combined HRT oral tablet. I had understood that as I now have no uterus, progesterone is not necessary and I could take oestrogen on its own which presents less risk. I have a family history of strokes and do not want to take anything orally. I explained this to the Dr but he said I needed the progesterone on account of endometriosis which to be fair I was diagnosed with 15+ years ago, had a laparoscopy to remove due to trying to conceive and never had a single issue since! Periods have always been nondescript, painless and regular as clockwork.

Can someone help? What should I do and am I correct in my understanding that oestrogen only would suffice now my uterus has been removed?

It all depends on how extensive your endo was (and where.)

Estrogen can feed any endo tissue that is left which is why he's suggested Tibolone (it' s a synthetic steroid type of HRT which includes types of estrogen/ progesterone/ testosterone - 'ish' type of drugs.)

If you feel certain there is no endo left, then you only need estrogen.

I think some drs would advise you to try estrogen only and then have a scan (pelvic) in 6-12 months and see if it showed anything up.
