Would taking HRT at night be better?

Hi there,

I'm new to HRT, I'm peri menopausal. Main symptoms are insomnia, anxiety and low moods. Just turned 46.

I've been put on femoston 1/10 and been taking it for 5 days now. The first initially days I felt quite good, definitely happier and more in control. I'm in the oestrogen side of pills at the moment.

But today I've felt an overwhelming exhaustion, like a weird fog and sort of feeling nothing. Like I can't feel happy or sad - it's very odd 😬 It's definitely down to the pill, I had to sleep afternoon.

If this continues I'll stop taking it. I'm wondering if I should take it at night instead? When I actually need to sleep?

Is this normal? x

Hi there, are you taking utrogestan? I'm guessing your feelings of nothing are due to that. For me I have great sleep and less anxiety for the first half of the utrogestan phase and then I get a bit 'morose'. Try taking vaginally, that massively improves its impact on your emotional state.

I'm I may take a look at doing to this way Smile
I think first half is Oestradiol, no idea what this means. Or why it makes me so sedated and feel so flat.

@Cherryblossom200 Nooooo, you can't use Femoston vaginally Shock

Utrogestan is a capsule used alongside estrogen gel or estrogen patches.

It can be used vaginally (off label) but no other tablet form of HRT is.

You need to give your hrt more time. 5 days is not long enough to feel any real improvement.

Just stick with it. Medical advice is at least 3 months.

Taking it at night won't make any difference.

Hope you feel better on it soon :)

Thanks everyone, I'm completely clueless with all this HRT stuff 🤣 still learning! But yes I did know I could use the pill vaginally! I thought you could get in gel form.

Not sure how the gel works, or which one is a lower amount. I really just need a top up mainly or hormones x

You aren't using gel though are you?

You're using Femston. Yes?

You can't use Femoston vaginally.

Estrogen comes as a pill, patch or gel.
Progestogen comes as a pill (in the packet, like Femoston) or as the Mirena coil, or as a capsule (Utrogestan.)

Your dr has given you one of the 'better' pill form. The progesterone in it- Dydrogesterone- is similar to our own natural hormones.

Femoston is 1mg estrogen. Most tablet form is this, or can be 2mgs.

You can't possibly be sure of anything after only 5 days, or whether this unpleasant feeling will last. As has been suggested, you need to give it time - ideally 3 months. Your own hormones will be fluctuating and the HRT needs time to bed in, as I understand it.

When I was taking Femoston I found that the second half of the pack was when I had issues with bad/low moods.

Cherryblossom200 · 09/10/2021 18:28

Ah no Spodge, that's what I'm worried about. I don't want the low moods 😬 did they get better after the 3 months?

Yes I'm on pill form of Femostone, only 1/10. I intend of taking the pill at night to see how I go.

The moods on Femoston were way better than they had been without HRT regardless of where I was in the pack. I just felt noticeably more on edge during the second half of the pack than during the first half. In fact I generally felt great during the first half. I did Femoston 1/10 for 9 months but my symptoms started coming back. Doctor said that I needed stronger HRT but switched me to patches/Utrogestan after that in view of my experience with the second half of the pack. She reckoned Utrogestan taken vaginally might solve that problem and it seems she was correct.

I am a bit all over the place with this.
Started on lenzetto which made me feel great a couple of weeks ago. Have done 2 days of utrogestan & i’m really anxious & teary. I don’t know what to do.
I don't know if i can take this for 3months 🙈
